How much gas does the engine suck when reving?

This whole thing about float height has me wondering. The bowl on a HS4 sure seems like a lot of gas. I think when the fuel pump broke and I had to fill them up I got several blocks before it went empty.

So since I raised my float level 1/8" to proper clearance would that in theory really make a difference? I mean if I put my foot down to rev the engine into the redline would that really suck a whole bowl of gas? I have a hard time believing that.

Depends on how your engine, intake, etc is set up. On a stock engine, about 100 pints per hour at worst, IIRC. No way one rev would empty a float bowl.

That's what I thought. So me changing the float height will have no effect on the issue I'm having. I suspected as such.

Well, you changed the float height and drove the car. Did it change anything? Numbers and theories are meaningless compared to actually doing something.

Hey Gary,
Don't you think that float height makes any difference? why do you think float height is specified? When your engine is revving hard, the float chamber level is critical to the proper flow of fuel past the metering needle. At low revs, or demand, it make little difference, but on heavy demand it makes a huge difference.

Hey Malcolm. I believe you and naturally I thought of that knowing there was a reason they would've specified how high. Not sure 1/16th of an inch will do it but one can only hope. I'll find out tomorrow.
