SU needle comparisons - anything

Post by max71 »

After reading Mark's kind PDF of Carl's VP-11 installation a couple things stood out.

One was that after the dyno they settled on AAB needles because the car was getting lean at higher RPMs. I decided to make a comparison of the three needles and its enclosed in the graph below. #6 which I now run. #5 and AAB.

Tell any of the brilliant minds here anything?

Also he said they timed the cam with 4º advance. Art emailed me the first time in 3 years and I've asked him where he placed the offset key. I'm thinking he placed it on the crank and not the cam although in doing the math we probably allowed for the 2:1 conversion. I know we had a paper with a lot of math on it. I also asked if he recalls which way he put the offset key in.

And for final SU fun. I was lent a pair of MME which I included on the graph this time. I have CPMs but they aren't listed. I also threw in my #7 needles

If you make a two degree advance at the crankshaft, that would give you one degree at the camshaft.

So it is 2:1 as I recall. The article said they advanced it 4º to get 103º.

I still haven't measured yet. Strange it could be advanced so much with only a 2º key. I'm interested if that guy remembers how he assembled the key.
