MGB Factory Hardtop - Seal

Post by Roadstir »

Does anyone know a source for a replacement MGB hardtop rubber seal that protects the bottom rear of the hardtop from the painted deck (tonneau) area of the car? This is the factory or dealer supplied version of the MGB hardtop which was most prevalent (1964). The seal fits in a groove in the aluminum track mounted to hardtop's lower edge.
Thanks,
Roadstir

Welcome to the club, so to speak.
If you Google an MGB hardtop seal you'll find them readily available from a source in Canada - for a substantial fee.
One of these days I'll hopefully get around to finding a suitable seal from SoffSeal, or any of the US companies that make replacement seals, which may not be true to the original but will work.
If you beat me to it, please let me know.

I took Jimmy's advice and googled "MGB hardtop seal". The first entry I got was for MacGregor British Car Parts in Canada for a price of $22.00 USD. I guess Jimmy thinks that's "a substantial fee".

Hiya Roadstir, welcome to the site! I can't offer any advise on where to find the seals, but I can vouch for MacGregor as offering high quality products. If he has them, then that's probably where I'd go first.

Wow! Last time I looked those seals were well over $100 - if not $200.
Guess I should order one before they change their mind again.

It was a Monster branded seal. Since Monster marks up everything to ridiculous prices for no apparent gain but their pocketbooks.

yes a little gadget dig there, but what can you do?

Well, it is a tale of two cities. The price quoted is 4-5 years old and not the new seal that they manufacture which they guarantee to fit exactly as original. Today's price? CD $59.95. But the guy sounds very knowledgeable (Brit accent helps) and they remanufacture many seals for healeys MGs and Triumphs. All of which he swears are the best available and to original specs. Could be a good source if that all bears out. I had him send me some samples of Furplex seals for another Healey project. So I will find out shortly.

Thanks for the lead--I bought the seal and should get it in one week. Have been looking since 2004!
