Electronic Voltage Lucas Regulator

Post by VWNate1 »

Has anyone tried one of these yet ? . for $80 it sounds like a good deal .

I just need to run down an old one to send in as I don't want to disable my Met .

I have an on going overcharging situation , it'll pass 16 VDC off idle and I want to install my FREE Pertronix ignitor but they told me to keep it below 16 V. or it'll fry :( .

Yes , I could break out my burnishing files and meters , clean it then warm it up and do the proper adjustment routine but I'm beginning to trust Solid State Electronics so I thought I'd give this a go .

If anyone has an old Lucas screw terminal typ ' Control Box ' in thier junk box (even a dead one) in So. Cal. , more or less the L.A. area , I'll come pick it up and mail it away , pay for it and be the guniea pig .

TIA ,

I've heard of some people using them on MGBs with good results but haven't tried them myself. I still trust points more than electronics, even in the control box.

I have a 5-post regulator but it's a perfectly functioning one so it isn't a giveaway, sorry! You can probably find one that's been neglected and no longer works.

Well ;

I am always trying new things as I occasionally learn :hammer: .

As it turns out , it's been in a while now and seems to be working just fine .

We'l see to-morrow and then I'll have to do some night time touring to ensure it works O.K. there too .

Update ! .

This thing is GREAT ! :thumbs: it keeps the voltage nice and steady , the radio plays well , the heater wafts warm(ish) mouse farts upon my feet as I'm driving in the chilly pre-dawn... :bow:

Just kidding ! this Metropolitan , is different from any other LBC I've ever ridden in and I rode in plenty back in the 60's , new ones , all had terrible " Mouse Fart
heaters , this thing's Smith's heater blows a torrent of hot air , I can drive in 40° weather with the window down as is proper and correct , I'm not cold .

The headlights are nice and bright too .

I think it was money well spent .
