My neighbor just stuffed the #4 rod through the block on his nice '76 Midget 1500. I guess they are as fragile as the rumor says. He's pretty bummed. He'd prefer a known good motor to investing in a rebuild but, he'd probably take a good core. Also, are there any better, drop-in alternatives to the 1500 Spit motor?
thanks!

The Chevy 572 ci. crate motor makes great torque, and decent power.
In baseball, running into someone is apparently a "collision".
But doing the same thing in a car somehow makes it an "accident".

I have a 1975 Midget 1500 with a recently rebuilt engine in it. I would sell it for what the engine is worth.

Malcom, I sent you a PM with my contact information. Thanks!
Jimmy, I like this guy, he has kids and a lead foot. Let's stick with 75hp.

Re: Malcom's Midget
This is actually a nice old car , mostly un molested and as much as I hate these later model time bombs , this would be a shame to scrap out .
The 1500 engine is the only really bad part about Midgets .

Thanks for the inputs.
Good news: No (additional) Midgets were harmed in the making of this story!
He found a rebuilt long bock on Craigslist that turned out was being offered by a reputable British repair and parts place as the customer never picked it up or paid for it. I looked it over and it looks like the workmanship is clean and meticulous so hopefully, the inside is just as nice!
