starting a thread on my car
which i bought about 2004
sadly, i've been working on
wwii jeeps and old mustangs!

my mg is in pieces but complete
i bought it from a gentleman in michigan
what pieces i didn't have i have purchased
mainly from Moss

have the urge to to complete
this project in the future
but am curious as to how much it is worth
i paid $7500 for it
most everything is original and functions
the motor is not overhauled
but ran before car was disassembled

Hi Iowa, welcome to the forum! Nice looking TD you have there. Without seeing more detailed photos or info, I would say that assuming the wooden parts of the body structure are sound, and the engine is not seized, you paid a fair price.

Nothing sad about working on WWII jeeps, I love those things!!!

i am currently helping my son
finish a semi-restro on his '66 C code mustang coupe
we put a T5 Tremec 5 spd tranny in it!
next will be to get my wife's '88 fiero running good
and getting the mouse smell out of it.
then i have to finish a wwii piper cub (L-4B)
then a '65 K code mustang
then the MG!!
so am basically saving it for my retirement in about 5-6 years!!
where is the best place on ebay to buy old MG parts?
could s.o. provide a link?
i had started a restro on this MG in 2004
before i got into wwi jeeps
so will post a few pictures in the near future

So, Steve, how do you feel about Korea era Jeeps? They're Flatfenders, too. The last ones.
I'm selling my survivor (18,000-something miles) '52 M38.
It should appeal to you since its 98% stock...oh, wait, it's a runner. I forgot that you prefer cars that are or needs to be taken apart. Never mind then.

I prefer WWII Jeeps. Always had a soft spot for them.

Iowa, places other than eBay to look for parts are Abingdon Spares, Moss Motors and Shadetree Motors which is selling off their remaining inventory.

So, you guys prefer the MB (WW II) jeeps over the new ones?
That means you get the flimsy frame, too-tall (4.88) axle gearing, a very weak transmission, and an equally marginal rear axle.
Most people can't tell the MBs apart from the later Jeep CJs and the M38, anyway, with one exception - the grille.
Yep, six bolts are all it takes to swap out the grille.
Two more bolts and you can install the correct era windshield, too.

Next thing Jimmy will do is buy one of those "classic" body style kits for modern cars. Makes a 2004 Caprice look like a '55 Bel Air that someone put through a blender.

Actually, I have a conversion kit on order.
It makes an affordable and (up to this point) fully functional Jeep Cherokee look and drive like a Land Rover Discovery.
Primarily it achieves this by adding a few thousand pounds of weight, but it sure will look great cruising around West Hollywood.

I had a '53 MG TD long ago .

I also had a Korean era Willys M38A1 ~ that's the CJ5 looking one with 24 volt system , it was a great Jeep .
