Plastic fan for 1600 MGA

Steve - if memory serves you had a bit of a go looking for a plastic fan for your MGA. Did you ever find a bolt on plastic fan?

There are three options...

First is to use an MGB fan, but if memory serves, you have to change the water pump to the short nosed version. I can't remember if the short pump fits the A block without modification or if it's the other way around. One way requires grinding the block, which I would not do.

The second option is to use a flex fan. There is a gentleman right here in So Cal who is a member of The Vintage MG Club, who sells a kit. He used to list them on eBay so you may still find them there. I can find his contact info if you need it

Third option is a special plastic fan sold in the UK by NTG Motor Services. They specialize in parts for older MGs but do have some parts for MGA. I haven't tried their plastic fan but I just checked and they're still selling it so I assume it has been working. I suspect the flex fan would work better but that's only a hunch, no data to back it up.

Personally, I prefer metal fans. As far as my engine is concerned, I like to delete plastic where ever possible. A good flex fan is probably the best option, though I have no problem with the stock steel fan on my MGB, and the stock aluminum fan on my Jaguar.
