Has anyone tried removing rust with aluminum foil and water?

I tried it out and it worked well with less effort than chrome polish and steel wool and doesn't scratch the chrome or glass. Sorry for the bad picture, I took it with my phone today facing the afternoon sun. The fuel gauge bezel was rusted like the speedometer bezel. A few minutes with water and aluminum foil an this is the result. I only did the inside of the bezel. I'll do the outside of the bezel when I remove the instruments from the dash.

I tried it as well on the back bumper of the Healey and it does seem to work. It definitely smoothed the surface and might have brought out a little more shine.

I just took a piece of foil and folded it up until is formed a 3 x 5 pad. I used Windex as I was too lazy to find real water.

Next time try coke/pepsi and foil. Works great though you will need to wash the part with soap and water afterwards.
