Last weekend I replaced the pinion seal in the Warwick and came across this rubber u-joint. It is attached to a two ear flange in on the pinion and another two ear flange on the driveshaft.
The driveshaft, transmission output flange and rear axle are all solid - no splines. The only allowable fore-aft movement is courtesy of this rubber doughnut, which is two steel plates riveted together with imbedded rubber bushings. Bolt diameter is 3.5".
Fortunately, the previous owner had a spare to replace the worn one on the car, but I would still like to identify it and stock up a spare item.
The rear end is a Salisbury HSA/HSU and common to Morgans, XK150s and DB4s. I searched exploded diagrams of these cars and I see the traditional four bolt roller u-joint setups, but nothing like the photo below.
Any help identifying this wonderful piece of British engineering, would be most appreciated.
Dean

Re: Warwick GT Rubber U-Joint - what is it?
Hi Dean,
It almost looks like the rubber torque bushing use on the early Triumph GT6 Rotoflex Coupling or also called a Flex Disc use in the rear drive assy. on the axle to absorb torque and bending inputs.
If you follow the link and look at item # 6 it looks like that might be what your looking for.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Martin.
It is very close, but the GT6 variant is of the six bold variety. What is odd about the Warwick is it is a four bolt.
That said, "roto-flex" is another good word for me to search with.
Thanks,
Dean

Hi Dean,
That look as though it may be inter-changeable with the Roto-Flex coupling fitted to a Landrover Discovery. I have a spare for comparison, but it's in my Landrover toolbox in Big Bear.

Crazy UK Peerless guys came up with this reference. Many names for the rubber joint - Roto-flex, Giubo or Guibo and now a Layrub.

Now I just need to see if they are still an ongoing concern and willing to ship a part overseas.

If they don't want to ship, you could have it mailed to my Uncle's place, and I could have him put it in the crate with my Velocette.
