Hi Tanny,
Yes, they do work, but it's easier to drain the oil through the drain hole in the pan. They're good for removing excess oil, if your car is over=filled, or for taking gas from your gas tank, but for oil changes, the old method is still the best.

Those are primarily useful for modern cars that come without a drain plug. For our cars I can't see any real benefit. I agree with Malcolm, easier to just drain out the bottom.

The primary issue is : the accumulated sludge doesn't get removed , this is why it's always better to hot drain the sump via the drain plug .
