MGB Coil-Over Kits

Does anyone have any experience with the MGB Coil-Over Kits that replace the front suspension with the Moss kit? Is it a good or bad deal even though it is very expensive? Does it improve the handling enough to make much of a difference? And any other comments you might have about it.

Hi Tom,
All I can say is, " don't do it". There is nothing much wrong with the set up as Stock. There are definitely better systems on more modern cars, but converting your MG to a coil over system is an expensive way of making your car no better at best, and a lot worse possibly. I've driven cars with the coil over system, and was not impressed. Just my opinion, of course.

While I have no personal experience with the kits, I doubt their value on an MGB. Modern technology could certainly provide improvements over the outdated MGB suspension system, but the stock setup is pretty darn good just as it is. Making a major change to one end of the car could upset things, and properly engineering an entirely new system is not a trivial task.

That said, there are many people out there who swear by the "upgrade". Then again, it's hard to say anything bad about a product you just spent that much time and money on with such high hopes of handling improvements.

I'd rebuild the stock suspension first , getting rid of the soft & sloppy rubber A - Frame bushings ~ until you've personally experianced the vast improvement provided by Urethane bushings , you cannot possibly understand .

Most MGB's have worn out suspension and simply periodically rebuilding it carefully if the first step .

I have to agree with VWNate1 on this subject. It is just amazing how a rebuild with new parts and modern bushings improves the feel and handling without breaking the bank or emptying your wallet.

Because I only have 65000 miles on it and the steering doesn't feel loose.

Part of the beaut of the BMC front suspension is that it doesn't feel badly even when it's otally worn out .

This I know from personal experiance of taking them apart .

If you're after better handling , maybe you need better tires and / or dialing in the tiere's pressure for *exactly* your weight and driving ~ this last is free and fun to do , can and should be done on every vehicle a sporting driver operates and makes an incredible difference .

I had my mechanic look at the front suspension and he found no problems, so I will be doing nothing to change it.
