'78 Jaguar 6 Cylinder Tacho Wiring ?

Post by VWNate1 »

From a very nice four door sedan .

It has two electrical connections :

Round pin with white wire having both a red tracer and a blue spiral

Flat male connector with a solid green wire .

SMITHS RVC 2612/02F

Negative earth

What goes where please ? :? .

Nate,

Not exactly the same model, but on page 9 of my Europa Manual shows how I wired up my RVC.

You can find it here (I hope).

If the link doesn't work, I'll send you the pdf.

Hi Nate,
The green wire goes to the voltage stabilizer, and the white slate and blue wire goes to the ignition ballast resistor. It also needs to be grounded.

The voltage comes from the voltage stabilizer, and the signal comes from the ignition ballast resistor.

Re : Gauge Power

Post by VWNate1 »

You dodged my question Malcom :

Some gauge voltage stabilizers work like a turn signal flasher , they click on and off and the gauge never quite receives 12 volts , the interruption of power seves to dampen the gauge so the needle doesn't flicker .

Others function like ballast resistors and provide a steady 7 ~ 9 VDC , I don't know what a Jaguar XK does and don't have one to test .

I guess I'll just power this thing up and find out .

I'm fairly sure they're stabilized to 12 volts, but you could just use a Jaguar voltage stabilizer to be sure.

Therin lies the rub ~ .

I don't know where it is in a Jag. nor what it looks like . I did spend some time poking 'round the opened dashboard .

That sure was a sweet kitty , should NOT have been junked ! :x .
