So is anyone using a Magnaflow muffler setup on their vintage sports car? I'm in talks with a local exhaust shop about doing up a 2.25" system in my '67 Volvo 1800S with a 2000cc engine and dual SU HS6 carbs. I will be keeping the original manifold and dual downpipe, as it is known to be a good design. I plan on just using one Magnaflow muffler at the very back of the car, just before the bumper. No resonator, for now. I expect it to be quite loud, but am just wondering if anyone might have additional advice or thoughts. Or, does anyone have any links to sound clips of other vintage European sports cars with a similar exhaust.
By the way, I also plan to have them weld in a O2 sensor bung, so that eventually I can hook up a wideband A/F gauge and get down to business selecting the best needles for the SU's.

I don't suppose Magnaflow is the same as Maniflow? I suspect not, but I do have limited experience with Maniflow in case it helps.

Re: Got Magnaflow?
Hello:
I've been lurking in the shadows for some time and finally registered. This may be a little late in coming, but:
Magnaflow and the LBC. By itself the straight thru round type are just too loud. I used a 14 inch glass pack and a 4 inch diameter magnaflow and it was just too loud. I then switched it out for a Hushpower II muffler, it was more of the same, even though the hushpower isn't a straight thru design.
This is where I ended up; 3 inch dia. X 19 inch glass pack (resonator) made by Full Boar Jones and a 18 inch Turbo Tube muffler by Jones also. Jones stuff is inexpensive also, you can buy both parts for the cost of the magnaflow.

My Bugeye exhaust has a great tone. I also added a removable supertrap disc muffler that attaches to the back of the pipe. I put this on whenever the wife is going with me, that way I can hear everything she has to say (...hmmm may need to rethink).
Hope that helps a little,
Rod

Re: Got Magnaflow?
Welcome to the forum, Rod! Those are interesting results. I'm running a single 18" x 1.75" glass pack on my TC (1275 XPAG engine) and it's a bit loud but not too bad. My MGC has twin 18" x 2" of the same and it's pretty loud, but that's a 3-liter performance engine so that's to be expected. Peco makes a 2" straight through exhaust for MGB and I've run one on two cars. The sound is very nice and not too loud.

Re: Got Magnaflow?
John, I too run a 2" pipe with a straight-thru Peco round muffler (not a glass-pack) on my high-performance MGB. I'm very happy with it and it's not too loud in my opinion. Pretty quiet when cruising and you know it means business when you're hard on the throttle.
