First & foremost here : Valley Friction Materiels is alive & well although Virgil retired a few years back , Tommy is still there as is his old Studebaker parked in the back building .

DO NOT tell me they're not there as I go there at least twice a week . they never closed nor moved etc. .my shop is only three blocks away .

They stock all manner of vintage European car brake parts too , like re-lined brake shoes for my '63 Porche 356B .
Pilot bushings never , ever " wear in " . I've re-done so many DIY clutch jobs due to dinged Oillite pilot bushings ...
I'm still not clear on how the friction disc got warped...... .

No clue how it got warped. I didn't say it wasn't there. It was a mix up on which one closed and it turned out it was the Chatsworth branch.

I'm sorry to hear that , most of the counter guys are pretty good .
Tommy's always been a real tightwad and changed out most all the old timers a couple years ago for minimum wage slaves , they're O.K. though - Virgil would have never allowed that and used to be the Ying to Tommy's Yang so to speak .
I never waste time nor $ on the 'phone , I go there with greasy old broken bits in hand (or a rag) and they can always fix me up well .
They're open 1/2 day Saturdays too , just get there before noon .

On American cars & trucks , I usually get a couple long bolts & saw the heads off , screw into the bell housing and use as guide pins when re-installing the tranny , this avoids the very real possibility of bending the friction disc .
I dunno if that'd work well on a MGB tranny , they're not heavy but rather long .

I've not posted there in some time , I used to back when I still had the 1967 MGB GT Mk I and I was breaking late model MGB's for parts .
I got some bad and indifferent advice from some self proclaimed " experts " who clearly were not Journeyman Mechanics plus I got ripped off by some parts buyers then roundly critisized when I made posts outing them (the thieves) and warning the others....
Guys would ping me off list for tech advice but not on the board as they'd get hassled etcetera .
All in all I more or less gave up .
