Re: Spotted Around Town
If it was southbound, I was on my way to work in Santa Monica, otherwise, I was going home to North Hollywood. Usually it takes between 50 minutes to an hour and 15 minutes for the drive. Some days though, it can take over to 2 hours!Martin Keller wrote:Wounder where Tannyo was going when you captured that photo of his MGB GT.
I use the Waze app on my phone to help me get through traffic.

San Marino Concourse.
Best part about it was watching a grown man throw a hissy fit because his Mercedes didn't win anything.
All Magnesium bodied Bugatti with nothing but clear coat

Spotted this Corvair convertible in Simi Valley today. Wild paint job, all white interior....shades of the 60's.

Don't know, but perhaps a fuzzy boa around the cockpit would be helpful to complete that 60's look

Spotted this mini moke in San Marino. I realized that I'm not sure I've ever actually seen one on the street before....
Despite some, IMHO, questionable style decisions by the owner, it certainly looked well loved and cared for.

SWEET ! .
It reminds me of the Monkee Mobile from the 1960's .
It's been decades since I saw a Mini Moke anywhere but in a car show ~ nice to see someone has one they use .

Re: Spotted Around Town
A few I've spotted in recent weeks. I know the last ones aren't cars but I don't care. They got me running out of the garage to look anyway.

Re: Spotted Around Town
Hi Steve,
Yea when I hear that sound of a Pratt & Whitney Radial engine or a Merlin engine I usually run outside and look up also to see what type of Aircraft is passing by. Hard to comprehend today what twenty of them in formation flying overhead would sound like but I know it would be scary for those on the receiving end that did witness that type of formation.
By the way the picture that you have labeled as "car.jpeg" is a 1969 Oldsmobile Hurst 442, would pass just about anything on the road except a gas station as they had a 455 cubic inch engine under the hood connected to a turbo 400 trans with an optional 4 speed. I am sure less than 1000 of them where produced in 1969. Only reason I know this is I looked a buying one in 1969 but found out that I most likely would have not been able to afford the insurance due to my age (18 yrs old) even thought the car was cheaper than a Corvette at the time (about $4800 if I remember correctly.

Re: Spotted Around Town
Steve, Martin,
I too am a reflexive sky-looker when I hear the sound of WW II-era aircraft overhead. I once had the privilege of being within feet of a P-51 Mustang doing close to the ground maneuvers on a private landing strip in Texas. It was unforgettable. Nothing compares to the sound of a Rolls-Royce Merlin. The Doppler effect they create coming and going is pure music. My father was a propeller specialist and worked on these planes during the war.
He also was a district service manager for Oldsmobile when the 1969 Hurst Olds was produced. There were 915 made, including the promotional ones for Hurst. My dad brought one of these beasts home for a few days when he was between his regularly-assigned factory executive cars. I begged him to ask Olds if he could use the Hurst for a couple of months instead. Even if he would have agreed with my request (the car had the famous Hurst "dual-gate" shifter for the Turbo 400 automatic transmission), Olds would probably not have assigned the car to him. Every dealer wanted them, and Century Oldsmobile in Van Nuys was the Hurst main dealer for SoCal. I only drove the car once, under strict supervision. Even so, it was amazing. I preferred the styling of the earlier (1966-67) 442s, and the 4-speed manual, but that '69 Hurst Olds would get anyone's pulse racing when seated behind the wheel at a stoplight.
Thanks for sharing, Martin!

Re: Spotted Around Town
Unfortunately no picture ( I was too intent on enjoying the moment)
3 July Northbound on 170 I was going slow (60) carrying some lumber and I was passed by a beautiful green 1932 Duesenberg convertible. How often will that happen.
It was Jay Leno getting off at Sherman Way. this one

Re: Spotted Around Town
Neat looking car but I bet the spliter on the front end sure takes a beating if it is driven on the street very much especially if their is a dip or speed bump or should I say speed hump.
Looks like it is an LMP car with out all the race logos and sponsor decals.

Spotted while shopping at various auto parts stores. Also saw a nice silver Corvette Stingray but he left too quickly to get a photo.

It wasn't my Dad's Corvette because that's in my garage visiting.
