Well, it was fun while it lasted.

Post by tannyo »

Doug and I went on a drive up Glendora Ridge Road near Mt. Baldy. It was beautiful with the fall colors, leaves on the road and twisty turns. Then a motorcycle rider decided to drive on the wrong side of the road through a blind turn and hit the front of Doug's car. The rider then flew about 20 feet to the side of the road. He was unconscious for about 5 to 10 minute, wheezing most of the time. Then he started walking around and couldn't remember what happened. Unfortunately Doug's brake lights stopped working so when he put on his brakes, I didn't notice until the motorcycle hit Doug's car. I hit the brakes, but still hit Doug's car. Not a lot of damage to my car, but you should see Doug's car.

I'll post pictures later tonight.

Oh wow, I just got your message and emailed the info you wanted but I didn't realize it was that serious. I hope everyone is ok! Really sorry to hear about the damage on the cars, especially Doug's. If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know.

The other fellow was walking and talking, and other than clearly being in shock, he seemed free of obvious injury by the time the Paramedics quite rightly convinced him to be transported and looked over anyway.

The final irony is that I, who escaped the collision without a scratch, fell out of the Auto Club tow truck when I got home and pranged my tailbone.

Now my tushie is sore.

Still drivable, but we had to tie down the hood. Anyone know where to get an aluminum hood?

Thanks, Tanny, for documenting the scene so thoroughly. I pulled down some of the enlargements for the insurance adjuster on Monday.

And I'm still more heartbroken about your car than mine!

Wonder how the guy on the BMW felt once he realized he dented the tank with his balls.
In baseball, running into someone is apparently a "collision".
But doing the same thing in a car somehow makes it an "accident".

That's why he was unconscious for 10 minutes.

Damn I'm glad it's only sheetmetal that got messed up. I've driven that road quite a bit and kinda wish it was a one way road.

Looks like it is Nate. :( Hopefully Doug will get enough money to fix the oil pressure problem in his Elf and maybe buy a different Volvo.

I know those P-1800's were never really popular and so on but they're *so* cute ! not to mention being a VOLVO f' chrissakes .

It's sad to see a black plate car hit the dustbin  .

At least no one was killed , this could have been ever so much worse...

The saga continues. My car is fixed, they totaled Doug's 1965 P1800. Doug bought another Volvo, though this time a 142 two door sedan.

Even though the CHP and insurance adjuster decided that it was the fault of motorcycle rider, he decided to sue Doug in small claims court. He was unable to provide a burden of proof that Doug's car went out of control and veered into his lane which is what he claimed. It's over and I'm glad it is. I came along as Doug's witness. The insurance adjuster was also there. We got out around 12:30pm.

We ate our victory lunch at Philippe's where the French dip sandwich was invented. It was good, but nothing to write home about. Just glad I could eat at a historic place.

The judge did ask about the dent on the tank. The guy said that's where his "body" hit the tank. The guy did get a concussion, was unconscious and couldn't remember what happened. Doug believes the guy has convinced himself his version of what happened. I feel sorry for him, but didn't appreciate his taking Doug to court and not believing we told the truth.
