Welcome, Spencer! I hope you can make it down south a bit for one of our fun runs. Not sure how far into the desert you are but we do have one in the Canyon Country area, not too far from the Palmdale area. Look forward to seeing your projects!

Thanks Steve, I am in the Coachella Valley but I do get to the LA area regularly (like 2 to 3 times a week). I would love to get the GT to the point that I would feel comfortable using it for more than around town.

I have actually seen your MG page before when I was originally looking for a GT.

I need to get some photos up to a website or a photo sharing site so I can add them to the rides forum.

It will be nice to meet some Brit car people as there are not too many of us in the Palm Springs area.

Hello.

I'm not going to say I'm a new face, as I'm more an old face. I've had this face for 65 years and it doesn't get any prettier.

I'm Owen, as some on here will already know and I'm from the land of MGs and wet weather.

I currently own 3 MGs, the 1937 TA is my weekend warrior, the 1971 MGB GT is my daily driver, and the MG ZR is a temporary stand in while the GT is having some body work & paint done. It may become a permanent part of the fleet as it's a blast to drive.

None of my cars are perfect or original. The important stuff is kept to a high standard and the rest is fixed with whatever works.

I believe that these cars are made to be driven and the GT takes some abuse, especially on the salt laden British winter roads, and it just comes back for more.

I'm a member of two MG clubs which means loads of activities, and I do a monthly meet with a loose knit group of enthusiasts for coffee and the occasional run.

I'll put some pictures up on the other thread.

If you want to see what we do, the link in my signature will take you there.

Hey Owen, good to see a familiar face! For those who doubt Owen's motoring fortitude, just look at the MG TA in his avatar. :)

Thanks Steve. Nice place you have here.

I wouldn't say it was fortitude, more like insanity. I was amazed that the old gal was still running after that.

My wife was in the passenger seat and was not best pleased at the soaking she got. Fortunately for me the exhaust is pretty loud and I couldn't hear her moaning at me. :D

Greetings Everyone!
My name is John. I recently joined the community and am looking forward to reading posts and finding new and innovative things to do to my MG. I have a ‘73B Roadster that has been restored (unfortunately not by me). I live in sunny California in Banning, which is west of Palm Springs and about 90 miles east of Los Angeles. I have had two British cars in the past, a ’72 TR6 which I purchased new upon returning from Vietnam, and a ’53 TD which I restored when I was married (1977). Unfortunately, I don’t own either of them anymore (but I do have the same wife).
I am tinkering with my B trying to upgrade things that hadn’t been done in the past by the previous owner.
If anyone has any recommendations for mechanics in my area, please let me know.

Hi,
I'm Stan. I have a 62 MGA which I bought in 1986 when I lived in Tennessee. I've also owned a 58 MGA Coupe in the past. My car is a driver but has been relatively dorment for the last 2-3 years and needed work on several safety issues before I was comfortable putting it back on the road in meaningful way. This project has now been completed and I'm looking forward to driving it as much as possible.

Hello. My name is Linda and I was pleased to go on the Memorial Day run with my 68 Datsun Roadster. It was a blast, and I loved seeing all the beautiful cars. I wanted to thank Tom for the kind invitation, i had chatted with him afew times at local shows about his beautiful MG.
I've had my car for many years and am restoring it slowly. Right now it is running well and I enjoy driving the Santa Monica mountains as often as I can.
Hope to get to know all of you better via the forum and runs.
Enjoy the ride!

Hi,

I'm Harry Pallenberg. My grandfather was a failed / C-level racer in Italy and then became a A-list auto importer - so whenever I'd visit there would be a cool collection of cars. I guess seeing them and hearing his stories was my introduction. Driving a Porche on the Autostrada at age 12 with him cemented it. I thought I was going 100MPH LOL only 100KPH.

Anyway fastforward past my 1st car 1966 Thunderbird in the 1980's to about the year 2000. I was working for TV host Huell Howser and we did an episode with Harold Osmer who wrote a book called WHERE THEY RACED all about the race tracks that used to be all over Los Angeles.
Every year Harold & I would talk and eventually we decided to give his book a fuller treatment (the old TV show only covered 1 track)... so we went ahead and made a full feature length doc film that covers a ton of old tracks (all 4 tracks named Ascot, Gilmore, Carrell, Lions) as well as the legendary people (Harry Miller, Wally Parks, Mickey Thompson...) who did so much to for the automobile.

Check it out - I'm sure you'll enjoy it: http://www.wheretheyraced.com

Hi,

My name is Jerry Arcuri. Dean Caccavo and I are friends, and I've learned much of what I know about cars by handing Dean tools and watching what he does with them... which is nothing short of amazing. The rest I learned from my father who was a life-long mechanic, even when he was a warranty expert for GM, Volvo, and Toyota. I know some of you other folks on the board through association with Dean. Most of you currently own and work on ( and work on, and work on! ) vintage British cars. I, too, had my fling with a 1973 MGB, which was somewhat forlorn when I bought it, but was a nice driver when I sold it on. I love British sports cars, but what I really love is driving dependable, fast and fun cars... emphasis on driving. So, for the past twenty years or so, it's been one nice "vintage" BMW after another for me. ( with a Land Rover, Cadillac CTS and a very nice last year-of-production C-4 Corvette thrown in for variety ) I've owned six different M versions, and enjoyed them all. My current hobby car is a 1989 BMW ( E-30 ) "330 is", mildly improved over stock. You say there never was an E-30 330is? You're right! But after a thorough re-build of the drivetrain, the M20 "baby six" in my car is very nearly 3.0 liters. A few other M-3 style modifications to the suspension and steering make this a wonderful driver. But except for the badging on the trunk, it looks stock. I did the interior myself, and even Dean was impressed. It still needs paint. I'll post some photos on the appropriate part of the site.

I enjoy all the commentary, technical discussions, photos, and pleasant humor on this site. Steve, thanks for making this happen. I hope to contribute from time to time.

Welcome, Jerry! We met briefly a while back through Dean. Hope to see that "330" on a run in the future. If Dean is impressed then it must be really nice!

Hi everyone, my name is John. I have two Series V Sunbeams. The first I bought about 4 yeas ago and after drive it a few months, I blew up the motor. I installed a Honda S2000 motor and trans. I also shortened a Miata rear end and installed it. About that time my boss made me a deal on his Tiger clone.

After driving it for about 3 months, I blew up the transmission. I built a T5 trans, rebuilt the motor using a carcraft magazine recipe. I will be painting it tomorrow.

Hello all, my name is Barry, and just joined today. I met some very nice British car folks at the Cars and Coffee in Woodland Hills last weekend, and Don and Becky pointed me to this forum as a good place to learn about some local fun runs!

I've had my 1969 MGB GT for about two years now, and am having a great time working on it, and driving it!

Wow, does this mean I'm the first one to join since John joined back in July of last year? Is there a prize? :)
