Welcome to the group Larry!

I was drooling over Larry's car at the show last Sunday. He did a bang-up job with the restoration and recreation of a works racer. It should have won first in class.

Steve -

Excellent job with the site. Larry thanks for the link.

I am the guy with the OEW Healey BN7 that was sandwiched between you and Larry at the last Super-Sized Supercar Sunday meet.

We purchased the Healey about 10 years ago. It is mostly unrestored - a California black plate car (~40K miles). The BN7 is interesting, in that this was the first of the Healey 3000 cars, replacing the 100-6 with an upgraded 6 cylinder and disk brakes, while still retaining the roadster (side curtains) bodywork (i.e., no jump seats). It was produced along side the better selling BT7 which had a large cutout in the rear shroud to accomodate the rear tractor seats.

In addition to the Healey, we recently purchased a '70 Europa project car for my son and I to work on. The body is currently hanging from the rafters, as we work out the details of a 2.0 Ford Zetec transplant. The goal here is to finish it ala Lotus 47 trim, but not hold back on performance upgrades.

An '88 BMW M5 is my daily driver, a 95' Range Rover Classic picks up the groceries and supplies, and a Kubota tractor tackles the great outdoors.

We are no strangers to British cars. Prior rides include:
2 - TR4s, 2 - Austin Americas, a 60 Sprite (traded pinks with Tom Colby in the early eighties for a 65 Healey 3000), an early S2 Europa, and a SWB Rover.

Look forward to hooking up for meets and tech events.

Dean

Welcome, Dean! That's an impressive-looking engine! The garage looks nice too. I'm a bit of a garage junky myself.

Garage

Post by HealeyBN7 »

Steve - Thanks for the compliment. After moving in we added a third garage and workshop area to an existing two car space as part of an overall remodel. The Healey occupies the third stall, while the Lotus the fills the workshop space. If you have thee space, it will get filled!

We plumbed for air throughout, which is very nice, but the black and white tiles, while they look cool, are a pain to keep clean. I spent Sunday after the event taking everything out of the garage and scrubbing it down. Not sure I would install those again. The plan is to construct a barn, but we have a little more landacaping ahead before we can get started. Hopefully after that is done, the garage tiles will stay a lilttle cleaner...

I agree about tiles. I went with paint instead and I'm very happy. It must be nice to have enough land to build a barn! I'm stuck with a pretty small space to work in. Took a year and a half to build it, too! After the next SCS, you guys should swing by. I'm just around the corner. (or any other time)

Introducing myself

Post by MGBJockey »

I am Frank from Irvine. I am a tea toddler by the standards of the MG alcoholic site owner here! Ha! I am the proud owner of a '69 MGB roadster, aptly named Sapphire for two reasons. First, the day I acquired the car my youngest daughter received her acceptance letter to Penn State University into their Sapphire honors business program. Second, I found a small can of touch up paint in the trunk of the '69: Jaguar Sapphire Blue! Just too much of a coincidence!

Nice to see a local board up and running. Steve! My compliments!

Steve, I should add that Dean (HealeyBN7) and I have known each other since 1968. In fact, our parents still live across the street from one another!

Dean is to blame for getting me hooked on British cars...I should remember to thank him one of these days...

Sideache,
Yes. I get to Cars and Coffee about twice a month. Was there last on July 7th. Experienced a smoldering loom behind my radio console on the evening of 7/10 and scrambled to recover in time to leave with the So Cal MG Club for a caravan up to the National MG2007 convention at Sonoma. I have some photos of that event posted on my space at the link below. I also embedded a photo of my car and my favorite road sign below.

Didn't return home until 7/22, and missed Cars and Coffee last week.

HI, I'm Spitfire

I currently drive an 07 MINI Cooper British Racing Green.

I grew up with my dad owning a few MGB's, I think he had an A at one point but I was much too young to notice. I made the Labor Day run and enjoyed it immensely. I hope to restore a classic MINI one day, of coarse if truth be told, I would rather pick it up mostly restored since I don't have a garage. It would be fun to see you guys out on the roads again.

Welcome! it was good to meet you, albeit briefly, in Malibu yesterday. As you may have found out already, it's cheaper in the long run to buy a restored car than to do it yourself! Good luck on your search. I'm sure you'll find the right car eventually. :)

If you gotta drive a fake, that's the one to drive. :) Nice early B there. You should drive it more often!

I wish I could, but, the B spends most of it's time in Northern California.

I had it down here last summer, but, I didn't have time this summer to go pick it up.

I will be in The Bay Area this weekend though, so, I plan on driving it then.

Unfortunately, I missed the Malibu run but hope to have the engine back in the Elan in the next few weeks and will be back in business tearing up the hills. Always looking for partners in crime :P

Hi

Post by carlivar »

Hello all. Just an introduction. Steve S. on the British Car Forum pointed me here.

I bought a 1966 Austin-Healey 3000 last week. It has been sitting since 1990-91 or so. A bit of a project, but almost totally rust free (I love California). Spotted and bought at a garage sale up near Ventura.

Here's some pics:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/9394028@N0 ... 280322240/

I love old cars of almost any kind but this is my first British car. I'm used to using 'spanners' instead of wrenches though from a few British bikes I've owned (1969 & 1999 Triumphs, 1968 BSA).

I'm 30 years old and live in Burbank. I have a 3-month old son, so my time to futz with cars has been severely curtailed lately, but I am still able to sneak outside when my wife isn't looking.

My new Healey needs a lot of work. My first goal is just to get it roadworthy again, looks be damned. It will have lots of "character"!

Welcome to the site! Man, what a find you have there. Why don't the garage sales in my neighborhood have Austin Healeys?

You certainly have the right attitude. Get it running and get it on the road. Too many cars get torn apart before their owner gets a chance to drive them, and many of those cars never get completed.

I think it looks great just how it is. I do think I'd get some new carpet though. Yuck!

Congratulations. I also bought my recent Healey when our son was a few months old. He is 10 now and still gets a thrill when we take it out. I can clearly remember my wifes look, when she saw us coming home with the seat cushion removed and the the car seat strapped in its place. This became the norm for every ice cream run or weekend outing until he was able to see over the dash.

Be sure to join the Healey clubs, Healey forum/digest, and obtain a resource guide.

http://autox.team.net/mailman/listinfo/healeys

You will find Healey guys can be very specific with regard to originality should you desire to go down that path.

I am planning to attend the motor for toys event in Agoura. Hope to see you there.

Hi everyone, my name is Tito and I just got back into the fold a few weeks ago. I just bought a 70 GT 2 owner car and I love this little beast. i have had a 65 and a 69 B which both had to go when I bought my home many moons ago. I am been restoring cars since I was 16 when I did a 1969 El Camino! I really do love the marque and I cant wait to dive into making her go just a little bit faster and look just a tiny bit prettier! Isnt that how it all starts
