Welcome Eric. Reading your post, I started to feel sorry for your situation until I got to the part about your Lotus! :P
Look forward to seeing you and the Lotus on the next run.

you should still feel sorry for me, as I do for every person who is not rich who SERIOUSLY LOVES cars. I can afford pretty much ONE car..so I made it my dream car.

Thanks to the GT I can cure my classic car itch I THINK!! I've had a lot of Miatas, 3 to be exact, so I'm "over" top down 2 seat driving.....so I NEVER looked at MGBs. I had never even HEARD of an MGB GT till I saw an episode of Wheeler Dealers (You may know it, FUN show, look it up)..and OH MY GOD...was that JAMES BOND DAILY DRIVER!?!?!? Then I looked at the cars statistics and it was SURPRISINGLY "miata" like in terms of weight and such....

Plenty of people felt the same way when they saw the MGB GT, which is how it earned the nickname "poor man's Aston Martin". Don't expect it to feel ANYTHING like a Miata however.

Luke, welcome to the forum! I envy you for having your own British sports car at 13 years old. I got my first one when I was 17 and had to beg my dad to give it to me. It was a beat up old 1965 MGB that he had driven the wheels off, but I fixed it up over time. That car is still in my garage now, 20 years later! Wow, I just realized it's been 20 years since I was 17. Time sure flies when you drive a fun car! :)

I hope you're still driving your GT in 20 years, too!

Welcome, glad to hear that you have the bug so early. Wish I did, because I would probably have my dads old B. But alas I have one that I haven't got close to running yet and its been a year.

Although I had to cut off one bolt from the front bumper and one from the rear bumper.

Hello Everyone!

My name is Chris Salisbury (as in your axle if you've got a B... or the steak if you're into crumby dinners) and I'm from the huge city of Hutto, Texas, about 20 miles NE of Austin. I met Steve through the MG Experience and met up with him when I drove my '67 MGB GT from Austin to So Cal. My clutch throwout bearing went out and Steve came to the rescue. He bought the parts (I paid him back... he's not thaaaat nice... ), picked me up in his beautiful MGA and took my sorry self out to Gardena where we put in a solid 10 hours of work on the car. I was able to drive it home that night, and the next day wrapped up a few loose ends and followed Steve and Tanny out to Buttonwillow for one of the most memorable weekends ever.

I'm glad to be part of Vintage Motoring! Heck of a site.

Steve - You don't need to call me an honorary member anymore. ;)

Too bad you have that heavy roof (which surely did your clutch in) but next time you drive through New Mexico, please stop by.

Jimmy-

Next time I'm in the New Mexico part of the world, I'll be sure to let you know. I had a great time with a fellow named Sam in Good Year, NM. He's an MGB enthusiast I met up with at MG Experience. I'm not sure how far away you are from Phoenix, but if you need an outstanding cafe to eat at, the Peppersauce Cafe is top of my list. The Peppersauce burger comes with a 1 pound hand made burger patty with about a half pound of spicy pastrami topping it off with gooey cheese all over the place. It's located on the East side of Phoenix just one signal off I-10.

Chris,
I'm in the extreme northern part of New Mexico, so Phoenix is a bit aways for me, but the food sounds excellent.
Please do let me know when you're about to cruise by.

Jimmy,

Your are in the BEST part of NM then. On the way out to California, I headed north on 285 from Fort Stockton, TX up through Carlsbad and Roswell. I then found the 60 and headed down Salt River Canyon. What amazing country. In one day I saw 95 degrees up in the desert and 20 degrees with rain, hail, and snow in Northern NM flying through the mountains. Just incredible. I just wished I had time to take the turn off towards Ruidoso. Those roads looked incredible as I passed through.

Tom's BBQ in Capitan was a very nice stop! Great BBQ! I told my wife that Capitan is one of the few places I could actually picture moving too. Just a great little town with some of the warmest people I met on my journey.

*I just noticed I typed Good Year, NM - that's supposed to be "AZ". That also explains why Peppersauce Cafe is nowhere near you lol. :D

Hey Guys! My Name is John...I own and drive a 1976 BMW 2002. I stumbled across this site doing research for an upcoming project and it looked like a cool place so I joined! My car is NOT stock...its got a beefed up motor, new interior, suspension mods, rims and tires, and audio upgrades. I tried to keep the mods tasteful and when possible period correct. Here are a few pics.

Welcome, John! Beautiful 2002 you have there. I hope to see it on a future run!

I really love the first photo under the bridge. If you post photos in the "Post a picture of your ride" thread, your car will be added to the owner's gallery!

Hello, my name is Mike and I am a caraholic.
I own a few cars, a 1967 Riley Elf , a 1960 Austin Seven (Mini) and a 1966 Porsche 912.
I added the pictures to the picture thread.

The Riley Elf, based off the original Mini, has a freshly rebuilt 998 motor bored to 1014cc with a Cooper head, freeflow Cooper exhaust header and electronic distributor. The only things to finish on it is the paint, interior and suspension.

The Austin Seven is a very early Mini that was built on 8 March 1960 and first registered in California in 1962. It has the original 850 motor and is sporting tons of early Cooper items like a 12G206 Cooper head, twin HS2 carbs, Cooper steel fabricated header and Cooper 7 inch disc brakes. The car is really straight and has minimal surface rust. Thankfully this car was not built with the factory rust that many British cars were manufactured with.

The Porsche 912 has a sunroof and sports a 1.7liter Type 4 motor. I will rebuild the motor eventually and punch it out to 2.2 with alloy cylinder barrels and other go fast parts once the Riley and Austin are finished.

The original Mini was launched under the two manufacturers of Austin and Morris even though they were build on the same assembly line. The Austin was named the Seven to have the new car associated with it's previous successful car of the 1930. The Morris cars were launched as the Morris Mini Minor to associate the car with their previous sales success, the Morris Minor of the 1950's.
Later the Mini was all the cars were known as and the car was badged as such in the later 60's.
The Riley Elf is on the road now and I have already put 1,000 miles on the fresh motor and love every time I take it out.
The Riley Elf is based off the original Mini and was made to be a posh version of the Mini.

Hi I'm Mark and I'm a caroholic.

My addiction is rear engined, lightweight Brit cars. I have a Lotus Elise as fair weather, daily driver. I previously owned an S2 Europa that never made it back on road. I sold it to a Swedish guy from Thousand Oaks - anyone know of him or the car?

Not for me the comfort of the Moss catalog, no! I own three Hillman Imp derivatives - a 68 Sunbeam Stiletto coupe which I imported from the UK last May and two US market Sunbeam Imps(64 Mark 1 and 65 Mark 2) that had sat in a backyard in Burbank since 1976. I gave away a third car to a fellow Imper in Orange County.

Stiletto has period rust and grime from 42 years in Yorkshire. It will be getting treated at Dave Wellwood's shop in Ventura. Goal is showroom quality restoration with reversible mods for improved reliability in SoCal heat.

The fun project is a Fraser Imp race car replica. The Imp engine is aluminum alloy and only weighs 176 lbs with ancillaries. It is derived from the Coventry Climax FWM engine. I acquired a Hartwell racing engine with the Burbank Imps. It is currently at Valley Head in Chatsworth being resurrected.

Second Imp will be stored until first two are sorted.

I grew up next to the plant in Scotland where these cars were built. They have more than a little meaning to me.

My secondary addiction is German cars. I daily drove an ML55 AMG for eight years - enough leaks and unreliable enough to be British! I had a BMW Z4M roadster before the Elise and my wife drives a Z3 Coupe (MGB/GT6 style, breadvan look).

I live round the corner from Steve S's folks in the land that time forgot known as Malibou Lake.

Happy to be on board!

Cheers,
Mark
