Yeah! Tuna Canyon! I crave to drive as not-in-a-straight-line as possible. See everyone there!

If parts arrive from the northwest then I will be there. But most likely just to meetup and not make the run.

Hi everyone! First time poster (just joined)
I just came across this thread and I'm very interested in this cruise. We just did the car show up in Solvang this past weekend and put 350 miles on my 1971 MGB V8 Roadster and need to drive it more. I'm looking for more information about this. I looked at the pictures from the other runs and it looks like a lot of fun and you all have some great looking cars. Any info will be appreciated.

Hi, sjblack13, welcome to the forum!sjblack13 wrote:

Calling this a "cruise" may be a bit inaccurate, as this is one of our more technical runs of the year, including some of the best non-linear canyon roads, such as Latigo, Stunt, Piuma, and the notorious Tuna Canyon (which becomes a one-way road half-way down, allowing you to use "all of the track" for cornering more exuberantly, if you choose).
We meet at the Malibu Colony Plaza, 23841 West Malibu Canyon Rd, on PCH between Webb Way and Malibu Canyon Rd, around 8 AM, and roll-out around 9. Here's a Google map link to the meeting location:
http://goo.gl/maps/MO7wh
Steve Simmons is the usual "non-organizer" of these runs, and he'll no doubt chime in on this thread any time now with specifics regarding this coming Monday.
We have all types of drivers, from those who like to hang back and enjoy the scenery, to those who prefer a more adrenaline-fueled driving experience. Speeds are never excessive, though, and safety is a priority on these public roads. There'll be a couple of stops along the route to re-group, so nobody gets left behind, and you can enjoy the route at whatever pace suits you.
Please do join us Monday. You'll enjoy the drive, and find this a fantastic bunch of folks to go "car crazy" with.
Hope to meet you there,
-- Doug

Re: Labor Day, Sept. 3, 2012
FUN RUN INFO
Sorry for the delay folks. I'm slacking as usual, I know. So here it is...
Labor Day is right around the corner, and that means another excuse to join your fellow vintage motorists in Malibu for the 2012 Labor Day Run!
When: Monday, September 3, 2012 (meet at 8:00 AM, rollout at 9:00 AM)
Where: Malibu Colony Plaza, 23841 West Malibu Road (southwest corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Webb Way)
Event Notes:
This is a “fun run”, not an organized event. We are just a group of like-minded classic car enthusiasts out driving the same roads. There is no official leader, nor any car club or business affiliation. As such please keep in mind that everyone is responsible for themselves!
Although this is an unorganized fun run, please observe common courtesy within the pack. For those new to driving in groups, here are a few unwritten rules we all try to follow:
• Drive safely and responsibly at all times. Leave your ego at home.
• Try to position yourself within the group based on your driving style - slower drivers toward the rear, faster drivers up front. If you are unsure of your driving preferences compared to other drivers, start near the tail of the group and go from there. We stop to regroup periodically so don’t worry about being left behind.
• If you find yourself lagging behind and holding up others, don’t push it. Just wait for a safe place to pull aside and let them pass. Being stubborn only creates a bad atmosphere and we’re all here to have fun!
• If you have a modern family car, please stay in the rear of the pack. Many modern sports cars such as Lotus, MINI, Miata, etc. are generally accepted and even encouraged within a pack of classics.
Other Notes:
Many of the roads on this run are extremely twisty including Latigo Canyon, Tuna Canyon, Las Flores Canyon and Piuma Road. Stay alert! Latigo (the first climb) is the longest, slowest and hottest climb of the day. Some people turn off the route after this climb because of overheating worries, but there is no need. If you made it up Latigo then you’re past the worst of it.
Tuna Canyon Road is a very steep and twisty descent. Watch for blind turns and conserve your brakes! Also watch for slides, debris and construction barricades. Half way down it becomes a one-way road.
There are restaurants and coffee shops in the plaza for breakfast, but you should call ahead to make sure they will be open on the holiday.
Fuel is typically expensive in Malibu so you may want to fill up a few miles before you arrive. There is little fuel available on the driving route unless you take a detour into town.
There is a serious lack of restrooms along this route. There is no shortage of bushes but not much civilization! Your best bet for an actual toilet is on Pacific Coast Highway near Las Flores Canyon Road. Keep this in mind when you’re ordering that second cup of coffee before the run.

Re : Up Fixin'
Pay close attention to Malcom ! . it's a simple job but clutch works are always fraught with easy to make boo-boos so if he ' suggests ' a thing , take it as an order .
Expect to get *very* dirty as clutch dust and gear lube make a nasty mess .
I wish I could join you but Friday's the day Jr. comes over & helps me plumb in a new Kohler MEGA-FLUSH toilet.....
I'll do my best to be there Monday .

The new-to-me midget will not be in attendance Unless somebody has a new bypass hose for an A-series motor and knowledge of why I just blew out a brand new one (installed about a week.) It split vertically right in the middle

Re: Labor Day, Sept. 3, 2012
Prolly just a Q.C. issue as I've never blown a BMC coolant hose yet and I've bought a few LBC's that came with very crispy original hoses.....
Have you looked inside the radiaor for crud built up on the tubes ? if there is , this can be the root cause , it's super easy to clean @ home and you'll do a better job than any shop will , not having to rush the job .
Best of all , proper home cleaning will also leave the engine's water jacket and heater core , 100 % rust , silt & crud free .
I'd think that taking the split by - pass hose to your FLAPS you can match it up ~ I just did this recently , bought a $6 hose and cut off 3/4 of it , just this sort of problem : an odd shaped hose no one had in stock .

If "someone" were to "somehow" get a copy to "someone else" I'm sure it could mysteriously find it's way into a copy machine and find its way to malibu.

Re: Labor Day, Sept. 3, 2012
The face is for the wheel that broke (again) on Nate's Met. And it happened on Tuna Canyon of all places! Here's a "what are they doing" type of photo...
And by the way, great run all! As usual we lost more at each stop but there were still about 15 cars at the bottom of Tuna Canyon out of the 30+ at the start. Not many did the last leg because we were all getting hungry. Pretty diverse group of cars at the start, too. By my count, and correct me if I forget anyone.....
M.G. - MGA, MGB, MGB GT, MGTD, MGTC, Midget
Triumph - TR-6, Sptifire GT
Jaguar - 3.4 Saloon
Riley - Elf
Porsche - 356, 912?, 911?
Morris - Minor
Alfa Romeo - Spider Duetto
Plymouth - Signet
Shelby - Series 1
Lotus - Seven clone
Peerless - GT
Nash - Metropolitan
Cadillac - S & S Victoria Hearse
Dnepir - sidecar bike
Chevrolet - Camaro

Another GREAT run ! .
This is the 4th wheel I've broken on this car , this time it was the left rear .
The Caddy is a 1980 S & S Victoria Hearse , a ' Hurst ' is a Hot Rod .
Th sidecar Moto was Dnepir , another Russian Moto , this one was a Military model , not very old as it had electric start and most of the alloy casings were new .
Doug & his sweet Riley Elf was there too .
