Steve,

Glad you made it back without burn marks. Can't wait to see any pictures you took at the GOF.

I'm working on photos as we speak. The problem with digital cameras is that "film" is free. I have 1350 photos to sort through. Once I narrow the herd a bit, I'll post a few.

Hope everyone besides Steve and Lloyd also made it back safely. I am anxious to see some pictures too.

By the way, our trip to Utah, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming went great too. We covered over 2300 miles driving from SLC to Sun Valley, Missoula, Glacier Park, Red Lodge, the Beartooth Hwy, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Jackson Hole and back to SLC for the flight back home to Santa Barbara.

I will see those of you that are going to the "open house" this coming Sunday and am bringing Steve a DVD of the Memorial Day Run. Hoping for a little cooler weather.

Great trip! Too bad you didn't have your Mini with you. :(

We wanted to continue our drive up to Glacier, Yellowstone, etc but I didn't have the time. We covered 2,223 miles according to Google Maps in our TC. ;)

Steve, how many cars made the trip with you? Any trouble from the heat?

While we were on our trip, I thought about you guys and hoped nobody had any overheating problems.

So many of the roads we were on would have been great fun in the Mini, but the distances we covered every day and weather in spots would have been very trying. Bonnie can't stand the harsh ride in the Mini even for a short trip and that would have been divorce time for sure.

As it turned out, we had decided to get a bigger car than usual this trip and got a brand new (287 miles) '08 Chevy Impala SS with the 5.7 V8, individual climate controls for each side including heated seats, Onstar, satellite radio, tinted sunroof, huge 18" wheels/tires, automatic everything and even fairly good mileage.

Going past Flathead Lake and up the west side of Going To The Sun Rd., we encountered sun, light rain, heavy rain, snow and hail. We got some great camcorder stuff (nearly 8 hours worth)and digital pics (almost 500) and even drove under a small waterfall coming off the Weeping Wall way up on Going To The Sun Rd. The Mini and wife would have hated me.

Going across the plains from Many Glacier Hotel on the east side of Glacier Park for over 500 miles to get to Red Lodge, MT., I was buzzing along at 85-90 most of the way and cruised over 100MPH on some of the wide open and very visible stretches without scaring Bonnie at all. Very fun and the Impala SS was very impressive in it's power and handling. I would recommend it for anyone going on a long trip.

Also, Beartooth Hwy is a must for car guys. It runs west from Red Lodge all the way to the northeast entrance to Yellowstone. It was the drive I really wished I was in the Mini.

Sounds like a great trip, even if it wasn't in the Mini. I can't blame the wife about the ride though. Your Mini is set up pretty stiff for taking on that kind of mileage.

There were 6 cars in our caravan up, around 100 cars at the event, and we drove home solo. No problems in the heat, even in the Valley of Fire which was 110-degrees! These cars are so much better than people give them credit for. :)

I will get a trip log with photos up in the next few days.

Steve,
This my first post. Glad to see the Utah trip was a success and the TCs did well in the heat. Jim Shade and I took our TCs over to the Pomona fairgrounds today to watch the arrival of the cars in the Great race. www.greatrace.com. The race ends tomorrow at Angel Stadium in Anaheim. Among the many different marques represented was a 54 'TF. I was talking with the owner who said that earlier today they made the leg to Big Bear. He was already running at 90 to 95 degrees C. before the ascent up the grade to Big Bear. I had noticed a hose with a funnel running from the passenger side of the car to the hood. His wife would pour water from a gallon jug in the funnel which would dump water through the hose to the exterior of the radiator. This would cause the temp to drop. He said they used four gallons to get to the top and cooler temps.

Hi Mike, welcome to the forum!

A funnel from the cockpit to the radiator. Now that's perseverance! I hope you got a photo to share.

I wanted to go see the cars arrive tomorrow but I will unfortunately be stuck at work. I have to pay for that Utah trip somehow!
