Know your cars and parts?
Monterey weekend provided for some spectacular sights. Austin took many great photos. Here is one of my favorites.
The rest of the photos we will use for a game of guessing. Points will be awarded for the first correct guess with the Make, Model and Year.
You might recall that we played a version of this game with Goodwood photos back in 2009 (Yes - it has been that long). The rules are slightly different this time as only a part of the vehicle will be shown.
The first on is a very easy one. Worth 5 points. Good luck.

Re: Know your cars and parts?
My guess is a 1960 Austin Healey BN7 with numbers on it and a leather strap across the bonnet.

See that is easy. Although your are technically correct and awarded five points, it isn't the car you are thinking about but this one here on the lawn.Steve Simmons wrote:My guess is a 1960 Austin Healey BN7 with numbers on it and a leather strap across the bonnet.
Ready for another?

Yes, specifically a 3.8 liter E-type rear exhaust.

More specifically a 1970 or 71 3.8 ltr. is my guess.

No, it has to be '68 or older, series 1 or 1.5, so it can be either 3.8 or 4.2.

Re: Know your cars and parts?
That E-type exhaust can only be a 3.8 '61 to '64. The long resonator, and short tail pipes are the clue. 4.2s have a short resonator, and longer tail pipes.

I am not convinced we would have arrived at the answer without Tyson's initial help, so he gets 2 points.
Larry should have known better - 0 points, but awarded 4 points for the Porsche 911 commentary.
Totals to date:
Steve - 5
Malcolm - 5
Larry - 4
Tyson - 2
Austin and I will discuss the next photo over sushi...
Here is the far away shot.

Re: Know your cars and parts?
I would say a re-VIN late 1990's era Rover Mini Cooper registered as a 1970 or '71 most likely in red

Re: Know your cars and parts?
Mike nailed this one. He knows his 80 inch cars. It is in fact a re-VIN and in red to boot. Mike earns the full 5 points.
Arg. I didn't expect Tanny to google the VIN. One smart cookie. I'll have to be more careful next time. Although it is advertised as a 71 Austin, it is in fact a 1990 Rover with air bags and pounds of smog and electronic equipment. Tanny gets two points for outsmarting the staff.
Totals to date:
Steve - 5
Malcolm - 5
Mike - 5
Larry - 4
Tyson - 2
Tanny - 2
This is what was attached to the description.
The next one will be harder.

Re: Know your cars and parts?
I remembered the description from a Mecum sale and knew I remembered it as a re-Vin Mini. As for the red part, aren't most Minis red

For our education, can you explain what the shot of the wheel/dash told you that allowed you to pin down the year?

61 and 62 do not have the thumb groove oin the steering wheel. 64 has a black center dash.
