Whoops, forgot that we had limeys onboard. Yes Malcom you are right. 1949 Riley RMD roadster, the car that I learned to drive in when I was a kid living in Australia.
Cheers and Ta-tah :) :D

Thought it was time to tally up a couple of the recent correct guesses. Mike correctly identified the 1938 Hispano Suiza Dubonnet Xenia and Malcolm eyed the Riley. Here is where we stand with Mike in the lead and Malcolm moving to second place.

Mike (whitebuffalo) 55+ 25 = 80
Malcolm 30+25 = 55
Larry +34.6
Steve + 30
Steve (equiprx) 25.6
Spitfire + 20
Tanny + 17
Gene +10
Mark E + 6.2
Leif + 5
Tyson + 2

And the correct answer is from...... Larry. Now in second place.

Mike (whitebuffalo) +80
Larry +34.6 + 25 = 59.6
Malcolm +55
Steve + 30
Steve (equiprx) 25.6
Spitfire + 20
Tanny + 17
Gene +10
Mark E + 6.2
Leif + 5
Tyson + 2

Indeed this is the hood for a 100M. Healey had Jensen modify the bonnets of 640 BN2 cars in conjunction with other performance improvements (cold air box, cam, CR, etc) to bring the cars up to Mille Miglia/Le Mans racing spec.

Factory kits were sold over the counter for owners or dealers to complete the modifications themselves.

As 100M prices started to rise a definitive answer was needed to tell a real factory 100M from a 100 modified to Le Mans specs. The community agreed that only through tracing the origins of the bonnets can one be sure.

I don't know if this is a factory 100M, but it looks pretty.

OK here is a part well a side pannel of a sports car to identify for all of you.

Good luck and I think Dean should make this one a 25 point value.

That is correct.

Here is a photo of the car at my friends shop.

And yes it is a real one and the only paint on it is the two rear fender stripes and the dash and the meat balls.
The rest of the car is bare aluminum.

That is weird since I have seen 550's with no vents and a couple with a detachable vent panel, but never one with ones incorporated into the factory engine lid.

Hi Martin I was over at my friend, Ellery Engels about 3 years ago and there was a real 550 in there getting its front right corner fixed after a hit ! Complex corner to fix, several panels involved, wondering if it was this one?
Nice car though, does it have the 4 cam engine?

cheers

Hi Mark,

No it is not this car to my knowledge.
The owner of this 550 lives in TO and has had it for a long time.
This 550 has had some damage to the left rear that there when the current owner purchased the auto back in the early sixties. It was originally painted white I think and had something like seven coats of different colors of paint on it when he decided to strip it down to the aluminum a couple of years ago.
If my memory is correct he has told me he paid just under 6k for it and found it in Florida just after he completed collage and was looking for a sports car. He sure made a good decision and a great investment although he never figured it would be as collectible as it is when he purchased it.
At present it dos not have the twin cam motor in it but he dose have one to go back into it someday.
At present I think it has a 912 engine in it so he can drive it while the twin cam is being rebuilt.
It is a nice example of the 550 and the owner is a nice guy to boot. :drive
