Memorial Day Run 2013

Post by Stewart »

This Monday, May 27, is our annual Memorial Day Run so come join your friends (and make a few new ones). This "fun run" tours a variety of scenic roads ranging from canyons to country back roads. The route is perfect for classic cars of all types.

We will meet at the Malibu Colony Plaza located at 23841 West Malibu Road, at the southwest corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Webb Way, approximately 12 miles north / west from where I-10 turns into PCH. Meeting time is 8:30 AM with roll-out at 9:30.

As always, this is an unorganized run and everyone is welcome.

Rumor has it that there will be route sheets at the start of the run.

To see more photos from previous events, see the Image Gallery.

Thanks everyone for showing up. Best count I came up with was 28 cars and at least 18 ran the full route with only 1 riding the truck of shame.

I'm very jealous as I sit here at work  looking at the photos.

What kind of cars were there? Who got the ride home?

best guess

Bunch of mgb's and gt's
3 or so mga's
1 TC or D
1 Mini
1 Volvo
1 Datsun 1600
1 Porsche 912
1 Porsche 356
1 BMW
1 Lotus
3 Tr6's
1 Spitfire
1 Pearless
1 Sunbeam
1 Healey

Tom and his yellow B rode the truck due to a charging issue or lack of.

I'm sure I missed something.

Bummed I missed it. We were in D.C. for a wedding, supposed to fly home Sunday but our flight got cancelled. REscheduled for a monday flight to avoid the really late flight with a toddler.

Then we missed our flight due to a metro closure we weren't aware of. And ended up on a 10 p/m flight. Ugh.

I was excited to give my latest work a good road test too.

 I was the one who got the tow ride home, but I came back to the lunch and there was just the two of us. Where did everyone go? One of my leads to my alternator fell off and I didn't figure it out until the tow truck had come so I put it back on and it started up fine, but wasn't sure that it would stay, so I had him take me home to get another car. When I got home it started up fine, so I put it in the garage until I can take to Darren and get it fixed for good. After lunch, I met another yellow B with the Whitefield's in it. They have 5 B's and will see about joining us on the next run. I will see you all on the 4th. Sorry, but no pictures of me sitting on the throne of shame. :drive

There's NO SHAME in having a 40 year old vehicle having a minor problem .

Thanx for the pictures , it looks like both a good turn out and a fine time  .

Yep, any day I can do a run and avoid stuffing my car into the side of the hill is a great day! David, who came out with his son and his son's BMW, took some shots and posted them here:http://www.flickr.com/photos/33829099@N ... 753685700/ Good fun. Looking forward to another in July.

Thanks for a very nice route and gathering (again!). My son (George) loved the ride and talking to everyone, especially Jake, the other little boy in the 356. Here are a few more pics...

 Got the clip that contained the wire from the alternator fixed and all is fine now. Darren couldn't figure out how it broke, but replaced it in a jiffy at no expense. So I'll be ready for the 4th run and hope to be trouble free. :drive

Thanks for another fun Memorial Day run! It's been a few years since my last one, when I came rolling to a stop on Las Posas Road. :( And thanks to David for that cool photo of my car on flickr!

Attached is my only shot for the day, a little fuzzy, 'cause wow, those cars are going fast down PCH when you stand by the side of the road!

Wow. Great pictures.

It look like you all had a good time.

Pity I couldn't join you, but the TA doesn't float very well. :D
