Thought I should start a new post with the new date. This is at 7:00 AM tomorrow at the Camarillo Aiport (Waypoint Cafe). It is important to get there early in order to get a seat.
Janell decided not to go after all. However I will be there!
Dean is going. How about you, Martin? Anyone else who lives out this way?

Re: Sat, July 6th Early Bird Breakfast at Camarillo Airport
Breakfast was great, but the drive was a little more complicated then it needed to be.
It died again after pulling out from his neighborhood and of course on the 101 before the grade. Each time the glass in line fuel filter near the carbs was full of air. At one point Larry cracked open the see thru glass fuel filter to let the air out and this allowed the bowls to fill. This worked until Santa Rosa road where we retired it for a couple hours while Larry shuttled me to breakfast in the e-type. Really what is there to complain about.
A short ride back on the truck of shame brought the Warwick to the house. The neighbor across the street shouted "fuel pump". How did he know. Fuel pressure was 2.7psi exactly. Both pumps put out the same psi and volume. The trouble was that as I watched the pumps fill up a quart canister there was an equal amount of air and gas. Bubbles. Lots and lots of bubbles.
I removed all the compression fittings and nylon fuel lines. Two were not properly seated. These were on the intake side. I replaced all the nylon lines with steel and new compression fittings. Short rubber fuel lines manage the pump to tank vibrations. I added two additional fuel filters before the pumps to keep an eye on debris.
A couple test drives around the neighborhood indicate the problem might be solved. The pumps were drawing air. They weren't leaking gas, they just were not air tight.
Guess I'll keep an eye on it before going too far from home.

With a new front suspension, two new fuel pumps, tanks and all new fuel lines I was pretty confident the early morning trip to the airport cafe would be uneventful. Stopping off at Larry's on the way was my first clue as the car died on his street. hmmmIt died again after pulling out from his neighborhood and of course on the 101 before the grade. Re: Sat, July 6th Early Bird Breakfast at Camarillo Airport
Sorry to hear about the lift home. Air leaks between tank and pump isn't that uncommon, and sometimes it's tricky to spot. I had that problem once with an old fuel hose that had micro-cracks in it. The cracks let air in but were too small to see. Flexing the hose around would result in the pump starving or not, so problem found and solved.
One note of caution, putting a filter before an SU pump can be a bad thing. Here is a link to an article by a well known SU pump rebuilder. Dave Dubois, who describes the problem better than I do. You may have met him a couple years ago when he happened upon our group in Leona Valley.

On Datsuns the problem is the cork gasket on the glass fuel filter dries out and lets in air. Solution is to dunk it in gas, or go to a modern plastic fuel filter.
Anyway, I had the same problem myself a few times.

That early bird breakfast was a lot of fun. Lets do it again Saturday July 20, 7am, same place on the outside patio.

That is a great article on fuel pumps. Since both tanks were cleaned I am hoping the filters have nothing to do. They are glass, so I will be able to see if anything shows up. If I have to they would be easy enough to take out of the before pump circuit.
I don't recall meeting Dave, but please do thank him for a well written article.
