How much horsepower does your engine driven fan actually take? What do you think?

Nine Days in Summer

Published on Apr 17, 2012

Courtesy of Mike Banks

"One of, if not the classic motorsport film Nine Days in Summer is the definitive story of the development of an iconic racing car and record-breaking engine. Design guru Colin Chapman and engine supremo Keith Duckworth came together to produce the now legendary Lotus 49, powered by the fabled Ford DFV which would go on to become the most successful engine in Formula One history. The car went from concept to racetrack in just months and, amazingly, was victorious on four occasions during the 1967 Grand Prix season, including its debut. Nine Days in Summer, introduced by motorsport expert Simon Taylor, charts this extraordinary achievement in comprehensive detail. Incredible full-colour race action from nine Formula One rounds combines with fascinating footage of Cosworth and Lotus craftsmen painstakingly creating these stunning examples of automotive art. The film also allows you unprecedented access to Chapman, Duckworth and legendary drivers Jim Clark and Graham Hill. Nine Days of Summer, from the Ford Archive Gems series, is the ultimate guide to the creation of a motorsport icon and a milestone in motorsport film-making."

Here's 'The Fast & Furious' from 1954 ! :

Wheel to wheel action !

Jaguars !

Nash Healy's !

An Allard that changes color in the last 5 minutes of the film as do the white Jaguar's wheels .

Nash Police cars ! .

Etc.

Much of the filming was done in Griffith Park ~ you'll recognize much of the background in the cheesy process shots .

? I wonder of this was done by the same Roger Corman who made all those other cheesy car based B movies in the 1970's ? .

OK, I remember wearing bellbottoms jeans like that. Though I really wish I could forget it. This is a pretty amazing video. Couple of highlights. Theresa cleaning the engine compartment in white shorts. How she didn't get those shorts dirty is beyond me. I just lean over my car and I get tire marks on my dockers. A VW pick up truck being used as a transporter for a formula car. The driver losing it in a corner and recovering. It's a nice little video. About 23 minutes long.
This video is just fantastic. First of all it is a genuinely good film - dramatic and well recorded and narrated. Then, it is also so cool to see a TZ Alfa being driven on the roads from Canada to the Monterey races at Laguna Seca. And - it is really nice for an old dude like me to travel back to the late 1970's and remember how people did everything in such a relaxed way back then.

Those were the days - oh boy, how the world has changed. Watch any youtube video from this year's Monterey Historics and it is so clearly evident that there's another kind of focus today - let's say it like that.

Enjoy the film - it is not my intention to steal Hans Sipma's film; I merely try to help him get it further out among alfisti.

So, not really random ... A friend is a certified drone pilot and is putting together demos to show prospective clients. I naturally volunteered my MG! We shot many takes, over half a day to wind up with about 30 seconds of video! Posted for your enjoyment! Oh, and we'll get the description of the car corrected. :P

Cheers!

Morris Motors Engine Manufacturing 1939

Post by VWNate1 »

I hope this isn't a repeat, a fascinating look at manufacturing of flat head engines with un balanced crankshafts, Babbitt connecting rod bearings and other interesting things .

17 minutes long but fascinating details close up .

Throughout they say 'modest' instead of the usual 'we're the !VERY BEST EVER!' pap everyone else said .

We're having some work done on the house, and although I'm sure they're all stand-up guys, I'm not comfortable leaving them alone. Which means I'm stuck in the house watching YouTube videos! I'm watching some of the Goodwood races, and really enjoyed this one.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mbYgF41g5k

I especially liked when, early on in the race, there's a little Nash Metropolitan following closely behind a huge Jaguar MkVII. The commentator remarks that the Jaguar driver can't even be aware of the Nash's presence!

Enjoy!

Steve, funny thing is Dean had a Toyota pickup back in the early 80's. :)
Great video!
