Re: Memorial Day 2016 Fun Run
Yeah, that. Guess we're having a run!
This Monday, May 30, is our annual Memorial Day Run so come join your friends (and make a few new ones). This "fun run" tours a variety of scenic roads ranging from canyons to country back roads. The route is perfect for classic cars of all types.
We will meet at the Malibu Colony Plaza located at 23841 West Malibu Road, at the southwest corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Webb Way, approximately 12 miles north / west from where I-10 turns into PCH. Meeting time is 8:30 AM with roll-out at 9:30.
As always, this is an unorganized run and everyone is welcome.
Rumor has it that there will be route sheets at the start of the run.

Oh nuts! I could have brought you one. Bad luck with the car today.

Re: Memorial Day 2016 Fun Run
Yeah it sputtered and died when I was stuck in the number 1 lane in stop and go traffic at the bottom of the big hill and I got stuck in the center divider for a bit till it started working again after banging the bulkhead a few times. Made it another few miles and it quit again and luckily I had enough momentum to get to the side and off an off ramp. Started working again but I figured it was better to throw in the towel. Pump was dead silent after it quit and it's a points pump. When it did start working it sounded really weak not the solid thumping noise I wold expect. Thankfully it ran long enough that I could get it up my driveway as it's tight for a tow truck and all uphill.

Re: Memorial Day 2016 Fun Run
I have a freshly rebuilt spare if you need it.
Outside of that, it sure was a nice run. Gorgeous weather and scenery. 32 cars at the start. From what I can see in photos there were...
4 MGA
3 MGB
5 MGB GT
MG TC
MG TD
4 Austin Healey
2 Jaguar E-Type
Lotus Elan
Morris Minor
Facel Vega
Peerless GT
Caterham
Triumph GT-6
Mercedes roadster (70s?)
2 Mercedes (80s, coupe, sedan)
Shelby (Series1)
Thunderbird (50s)
BMW M3
And a photo for those who made it to the end...
(I know at least 15 were there)

Re: Memorial Day 2016 Fun Run
Hi Stewart,
Boy sorry to hear that your MGB GT's fuel system is giving your fits.
Sure was nice to see you and your car at the starting point and I enjoyed talking to you about your super charge installation and your knock off wheel disk's and your blue-tooth distributor.
Hope you get everything sorted and up and running again as I have know the feeling while riding home in the tow truck.

Re: Memorial Day 2016 Fun Run
Depending on where your fuel filter is I have had exactly these symptoms from a clogged filter. On my '68 Tourer the filter is between the tank and pump and will mimic a bad pump right down to its barely clicking when you thrash the hell out of it with a spanner handle at the side of the I-10.
Great run today and the turn out was impressive.

Uh, Stewart. This could be the impetus I need to get my fuel pump on my car, and yours back to you.

Re: Memorial Day 2016 Fun Run
I'm sorry I missed it! It turned out that both of my kids were available for a BBQ at the house yesterday, so that kinda took precedence.
The last fun run with this group was a lot of fun, and I was looking forward to this one. Oh well, next time!

Re: Memorial Day 2016 Fun Run
Fuel pump confirmed. Died a final death about 1/3 of a gallon into pumping down the tank. Unfortunately I had refilled the tank right before it happened so now it's the slow wait for the tank to siphon out 4 and 2/3 gallons of gas. Thankfully the pump is just under 2 years old so it should be under warranty.

Re: Memorial Day 2016 Fun Run
You don't have to drain the tank. Just pinch the hose gently with a pair of vice grips.

Re: Memorial Day 2016 Fun Run
That would work but then I would have to change out the fuel line as it's metal from the tank to the pump.

Re: Memorial Day 2016 Fun Run
I see no problem ~
I've done this , you use a bit of rubber hose to siphon the tank dray then it's easy to remove .

Re: Memorial Day 2016 Fun Run
well I went through all the trouble of changing out the pump and turned the key and nothing happened. Checked the fuse and pulled the white connectors hit them with contact cleaner and still nothing. At some point I must of bumped the harness and it started clicking away furiously. Bad connection at a 4 way connector on the firewall. A new connector and some dielectric grease and all should be well. I stink of gas for nothing.

Re: Memorial Day 2016 Fun Run
Please!!! Next time anyone sees me outside without a hat, please tell me to put on a hat. My head turned beet red and the burn was very painful. Otherwise I had a delightful time.
