Black Friday Run

My Sweet told one of our Foster boys we'd (means including me, I specifically asked ) take him to buy a new pair of " Jordan's " shoes for $100 on Black Friday.

I told him he'd need to find out where and when as I'd rather be burning up tires and fuel .

This thread's gone awfully quiet; thought I'd make a suggestion:

I'm the one who's been disorganizing the Black Friday runs since 2011. I'm doing some work on my car (my only car since I had to let my Riley go), and I'm waiting on parts. Unlikely I'll be there on Friday, but maybe you guys would like to choose one of the past Black Friday routes to get together and repeat. It's up to you; here are links to past route sheets, discuss amongst yourselves:

For 2014, I didn't do a Route Sheet; that was the year we simply drove Angeles Crest Highway end-to-end from La Cañada to lunch in Wrightwood. If you choose to do this run, meet at Jay's Shell, 4530 Angeles Crest Hwy, La Cañada Flintridge. There's a handy cul-de-sac just north of the gas station that will park a fair number of cars. The Grizzly Cafe, 1455 California 2, Wrightwood, is great for lunch. To head home, I highly recommend Lone Pine Canyon Rd. Head east out of town, turn right onto Sheep Creek Dr., up to the top of the hill to the "T", turn left onto Lone Pine Canyon Rd. and down to the 15 Fwy.

I love to join you guys, but, that timing is too late for me. I'll be out Thanksgiving morning do a run and wind up at the coffee bean in Malibu at around 8:30. If anyone wants to meet at 7:00am in Malibu, I'm in. Black Friday guys have fun.

Tom sounded anxious to get out on the road, and further up the thread, Steve indicated he was "game." I have reason to believe Tanny would like to go, though he hasn't chimed in here yet.

You guys need to decide between you which one of the routes suggested in the 6th comment of this thread (above) you'd like to do, maybe depending on where you'd like to start off from and end up for lunch:

2011's route starts in a shopping center off the 101, a block east of Kanan Rd, on the corner of Cornell Rd & Agoura Rd; and ends with lunch in Moorpark.

The routes from 2012 and 2015 both begin at the Malibu Colony Plaza, and end with lunch at Rib Ranch.

2013 meets in Moorpark right off Hwy 118/23, and ends with lunch at the Urbane Cafe in Ventura.

2014 starts at the bottom of Hwy 2 in La Canada, and ends at the 15 Fwy after lunch in Wrightwood.

As I mentioned earlier, I'm not likely to be there, so y'all need to get yourselves disorganized on your own.

The 2012 run sounds like fun to me and we haven't done it in a while. But I am game for any one of them. The one starting at La Canada might be fun except for the snow and no real route sheet.

Just tried a partial run up Box Canyon and back down Black Canyon and Wolsey Canyon. If we can combine it with a start from Calabasas Commons and end at Lenny's Smokehouse for lunch, I think that it would make a great New Year's Day run. Any suggestions as how to get from the Commons to Wolsey Canyon would be gratefully appreciated. Here is one short suggestion.

Calabasas Rd. to Valley Circle Blvd.
Left on Valley Circle Blvd. to Woolsey Canyon Rd.
Left on Woolsey Canyon Rd. to N. American Cut Off Rd. (Old Santa Susanna Test Site for Rockwell)
Right on N. American Cut Off Rd., which becomes Black Canyon Rd. to Oak Knolls Rd.
Right on Oak Knolls Rd. to Katherine Rd.
Right on Katherine Rd. to Santa Susanna Pass Rd.
Right on Santa Susanna Pass Rd. to Box Canyon Rd.
Right on Box Canyon Rd. to Lake Manor Dr.
Left on Lake Manor Dr. to Cookin’ With Lenny’s Smokehouse for lunch.
Continue on Lake Manor Dr., which becomes Valley Circle Blvd., which becomes Plummer St. to Topanga Canyon Blvd. or back on Lake Manor Dr. and Valley Circle Blvd. to home.
