Stewart and Tanny Question

Post by Steve Simmons »

Did you guys go with Moss seat kits or have them done from scratch? I seem to remember Tanny used Nacho's which is a place I've recommended for years but never used. But did you bring them a kit or did they make the seats themselves? Getting ready to do the seats in the '67 and knowing you had them done recently, I'm wondering which route you went since yours both look good.

for the 67 and soon the 75 I used north hollywood upholstery. Seats in the 67 are holding up well so far. The current covers on the 75 were from http://www.prestigeautotrim.com/usa/mgb-seatcovers.html while not as nice as the 67 they held up pretty well for being about 12 or 13 years old. They are a bit hard now but still look good.

Did they stitch the covers themselves, or were they a kit? Trying to figure out which is better quality and which is lower price. Hopefully both the same!

N.H. was from scratch so you can pick exactly the material you want. prestige is a kit but you can pick vinyl or leather seating surface and the piping. Not sure if you can specify the pattern.

I also used North Hollywood upholstery. You need to bring them either the diaphragms or webbing for the bottom of the seats. If I had to do it again I would also bring them new foams.

I had the seats done completely from scratch and brought them new diaphragms. They did a great job. Like Stewart said, you get to choose the quality of the leather. I'd go for the higher quality leather, it lasts longer.

I used Nacho's in the 80s for a VW. They've changed ownership since and I don't know how good they are now.

North Hollywood upholstery has done a lot of British cars from 1930s Bentleys to MGs. They also do the interiors for some Porsche replica company.

Steve,

Here's where I added up the cost of a Moss kit and decided not to use the kit. The kit uninstalled was more than the cost of doing it from scratch.

Also, the Moss kit is only leather on the seat faces, with North Hollywood Upholstery, it's your choice.

If the seats just have a few ripped seams, they may be able to be repaired.
