Fires - Everyone OK?

Post by Steve Simmons »

What I know so far:

I heard from Martin who said he's ok in Ventura. Kelvin in Ojai had a close call but has so far come through unscathed. Mark in Fillmore is currently on standby as fires burn the ridges behind him. I heard that Don Greene lost his home a few days ago. So very sad. Dean and Donna have relatives in the Ojai area who have lost properties. Everyone in the Sunland area come out ok?

These fires are unbelievable. Stay safe, everyone.

Glad to hear most have made it though ok. Had to pick up the folks at lax today and the size of this fire is insane. The area around La Conchita and Faria beach were burning at the 101 when I passed though and you could see quite a bit of flame from the 126. I'm going to stay down in s pas for a few days as the air in santa barbara is really bad. Even indoors it's eye watering bad. I never thought I would see the day when I had to go to la to breath some clean air.

It's really bad every where .

One of my 40 + year Friends lives in No. Ho. and his Old lady breathes via an oxygen tank, he say she's having the helluva time and he has to keep the house buttoned up tight .

Pasadena has some smoke in the air, I was in The Pomona Valley Wednesday to look at a clean Morris Minor and it was smoke filled right to the tree tops .

This is bad, very bad, be safe folks .

BTW : anyone want a really nice, 1967 Morris Minor original California car with rebuilt driveline (rib case tranny, 1340 Spridget engine with head work, fast cam and so on) for $14K ? .

Midnight blue paint and great chrome, no way you can build one this nice (smooth & quiet, no rattles, squeaks nor leaks, radio & gauges) for this amount of $ .

Black and yellow plates, Old Man who's no longer driving a Hot Rod wants to get it into good hands .

I'm heading back up in the morning to grab a few things and hopefully get a car on a dolly. Anyone towed a B on a dolly without an engine and drivetrain? Any stability issues? Unfortunately the uhaul trailers are a very tight fit at my place and I don't want to get stuck.

I haven't but I wouldn't expect any issues. Could always tow rope it out to the street and load it onto a trailer there. Or call a flatbed tow truck.

Fires reached 1750 ft to the West of our property line on Monday 15th. Thursday 18th was more scary even though it was about 5000 ft away. A dead orchard at the top of our road went up. It looked like daylight at 2:30 AM.

We didn’t lose anything and all cars were safely evacuated to friends places. Thanks to Mike, Martin and Steve for back-up offers of assistance.

Our Fire

Post by VWNate1 »

Tuesday our pothead Foster boy left his 'surround sound' thing changing on a cotton towel and went out to get high, the house caught fire, luckily everyone got out unharmed but the entire house and everything in it has smoke, heat and water damage, three huge holes in the roof, we're holed up in a tiny 2BR suite until June of so .

HAPPY HOLIDAYS !.

Sorry to hear this Nate. Being out of house for ten days with all the animals was hard enough.

Hope your rebuild goes as smooth as these things can.

Made it through fine the mudslides are little less than a mile from me. Just lost power and water for a little bit. It was crazy as there was just showers all day with maybe a 1/4 in of rain at my house till 3:30ish am and then the cold front came through and dumped an 1.5" or rain in a very short amount of time.

Glad you're okay, Stewart. I was wondering the same thing. The devastation there is really quite hard to comprehend.

If hills keep sliding like that, Montecito is going to look like Oxnard!
