2018 New Year Days Run

Post by tannyo »

It’s just two weeks away. Are we going to have a run? Thought I’d beat Dr. Tom Bellows to the punch.

Works for me! How about this:

What: 2018 New Year's Fun Run
Where: Meet at The Commons, 4799 Commons Way, Calabasas, CA 91302
When: Monday, January 1, 2018. Depart at 10:00 AM SHARP! Come early to kick tires.

Once again, a bunch of Vintage Motoring gearheads will gather on January 1st at "The Commons" on Calabasas Road, just off the 101 freeway. We meet on the east side of the lot near Williams Sonoma.

As always, this is just a fun run and you're responsible for yourself. There is no organization and no leader. We are just a group of like-minded enthusiasts who enjoy driving together. Traditionally this is a fairly relaxed fun run.

THE ROUTE: Our route will take us along Mulholland Highway from East to West, then down PCH and up Encinal Canyon to Charmlee Park. From there, the hungry bunch will continue to Agoura Hills for lunch at Tavern 101.

I won't be able to make it this year as my car is still down. It's so close but the fire and the holidays wont leave enough time to get it ready

The short list

Make new brake lines for the rear axle reinstall the rear brakes, new pb cable, tighten up all the bolts rear suspension, reinstall the drive shaft, repair or replace the rear body electrical harness (thanks rodents), bend up a new rear fuel hard line, retorque the head and set the valves, reinstall the exhaust and place a partridge in a pear tree.

Is all that still left to do? Or can we gang up on it and finish a couple things?

I had a wonderful time. The weather was beautiful, the roads are mostly clear, and the company was great.

We had three Steve’s, Ken from Scotland, Raffi, Don and Becky, Linda with Steve, Dr. Tom and friend, Michael with his Jag C type, and Jeremy and Lisa.

Steves MG TD. He’s new and I hope to see him on more runs.

By my count at the start we had 16 cars...

MGB GT (3)
60's Corvette
MGA
Mini
Fiat Abarth
Datsun (510?)
Ford Cortina
Lotus Esprit Turbo
Jaguar C-Type
Lotus Elan (2)
MGB
MG TD
Ford Anglia

And we picked up a few along the way. I noticed a Lotus 7 clone and a TR-3 pull into the line at one point. Also saw VM member "Gurechan" at the overlook with his '74 3.0 CS.

2018 New Year Days Run !

Post by VWNate1 »

Looks like much fun ! .

I'm sorry I missed it, hopefully there will be another fun run before April .

My LBC's are still sidelined due to my mangled hands/arm but I've begun picking up my tools and doing hot oil & filter changes (ow) so hopefully I'll be back in action sometime this year of 2018 .

Before my crash I replaced the fuel injectors and injection pump on my old Mercedes so it doesn't smoke badly like it did before, I hope you'll invite me out for a drive soon .

Tanny, you need to do a battery load test A.S.A.P., if the voltage drops under 9VDC whilst the engine's cranking, it's kaputi and will soon strand you .

If it's 10 / 11 VDC whilst cranking the starter needs service, NAPA and others sell brushes cheaply and they're easy to replace, clean and lightly grease the bushings and 90 + % of the time the LUCAS starter will work fine for another decade + .

Or, just buy a new one, they're about $100 and few rebuilts are any good .

It also needs a tune up, cranking that much is a very bad thing .

The minor amount of visible exhaust you asked about, is nothing .

HAPPY NEW YEAR'S TO ALL ! .

Wow, what a fantastic and eclectic collection of cars! MKI Cortina and a Fiat 600 , sweet! My favorite would be the 105e Anglia, love the funky rear window. Fantastic way to start the new year with a successful run.

Was trying to get there with my Imp, but the carb conversion ran into a snag so didn't get it together.
