My socially distanced drive of one.

Post by tannyo »

I drove 256 miles on back roads yesterday and had a blast. There just isn’t a whole lot of traffic on the back roads. Following are generalized instructions that don’t include all roads, but if you follow them you’ll get there.

I as usual I started out at the Costco gas station in Pacoima. I drove east to Osborne and took Little Tujunga to Sands to Sierra Hwy to Vasquez right on Bouquet Canyon Rd to Spunky Canyon Rd through Green valley right on San Francisquito left on Elizebeth Lake then left on Elizebeth Lake again to Lake Elizebeth. It was too early to eat at the Rock Inn so I didn’t stop. Then Pine Canyon Road to Three Points and turned left on Pine Canyon Road to Gorman Post Road. Took a left in Gorman and took a right on Ralphs Ranch Road to Frazier Mountain Park Road. Instead of turning on Lockwood I went through Pine Mountain Club down Hudson Ranch Rd to the 166, left on the 33 to Ojai. Through Ojai to the 150 to Santa Paula. Left on Harvard Blvd, right on S Mountain Rd to Balcom, left on Stockton Rd, through Moorpark to the 118 back to Costco Gas in Pacoima for a fillup of 11.34 gallons in my 12 gallon tank and then home in North Hollywood. If you don’t want to take a chance on running out of gas there are plenty of gas stations to top up at on the route.

If you take Lockwood then left on the 33 it reduces the drive to 231 miles. Whatever you do never take Lockwood on a rainy day. It floods a lot and you might get stuck.

I had a wonderful time and can recommend the pastrami sandwich at the local pizza joint in Ojai.

That's a great drive. We did a 400-ish mile drive last weekend to meet with sime other pre-war and early post war MG people. Social distancing and masks of course. It was a long day in a TC but nice to be on the road again after so long, even if only for one day. Photo taken near Cambria.

I know it's a bit late of a response, however Mark Costello and I took a drive with the Central Coast British Car Club at the end of October from Ventura up to Ojai and into New Cuyama and back in my Stiletto. it was the last drive in Southern California before Mark moved back to Scotland so was a great send off.

Yeah, had some personal things happen to me, February of 2020 I got trendy and caught Covid as well as my mom. We both recovered, but in June my mom passed away from blood clots in her lung so I just focused on the loss and taking care of what I needed to do so little to no work on cars for three months after that.

I got back to work on my cars and other's cars around September. So added to my hoard of cars with my Stiletto I added my Imp, Morris Minor , Hillman Husky, Austin A40 Farina, Sunbeam Alpine fastback and Ford Anglia van. So I do have a few build threads to add to the forum for those still around. I sold my white Imp to a local guy interested in Imps, sold my 944 and 914 so I can focus on the above mentioned cars.
