New Year's Drive

Post by Steve Simmons »

Considering the number of people I've run across over the past week who have brought up the idea of a New Year's Day drive, I guess someone should get things rolling. I always take a cruise through the hills on New Year's Day anyway, so anyone who wants to drive with us is more than welcome to join up.

We will meet on Tuesday, January 1 at 9:00 AM. Location will be "The Commons" in Calabasas on the far right side of the main parking lot in front of Johnny Rockets.

There is no organization, no planned route, etc. This is just a fun run and you're responsible for yourself. I would expect the group to roll out before 10:00 AM, but it could be earlier.

NOTE: Bring snacks! Last year we stopped at the Rock Store overlook and spent 2 hours watching a parade of cars come by. There was everything from brass era to modern supercars, probably 1,000 of them. If this happens again, you will want to hang out and you will be starving by the time you get home.

The Commons is located at 4799 Commons Way, Calabasas, CA 91302

Directions to The Commons by means of the "fun route" from the city:
- Take I-10 West, becomes Pacific Coast Highway
- Turn right on Topanga Canyon
- Turn left on Old Topanga Canyon Road (just after the only traffic signal in the canyon)
- Turn right on Mulholland Highway (at road's end)
- Turn left at Old Topanga Canyon / Valmar Road (1st traffic signal)
- Turn left at Park Ora (stop sign)
- Turn right at Park Sorrento (2nd street)
- Continue straight into The Commons
- Turn left in the parking lot and follow it all the way around to Johnny Rockets

That does sound like a fun route to Calabasas. I really need to figure out those hills. I took my cousin though the other week, and ended up on a dead end road. Which actually was ok, since her friend was starting to get car sick, so we needed to turn around anyway. But still

Unless you want to miss all the other cool cars out there, we should get on the road by 9:30.

I'd deny that statement if anyone else had said it.

I was only late those times because I had to meet someone else at an undisclosed location first, and we spent too much time yapping with people

Being self-employed, one would think you could do your drug deals during the week.

Just so you don't scandalize the other readers you should point out that you are talking about picking up your Metamucil at Wallmart.

I'll get mine up this evening. Sorry we had to bail out early though, the girlfriend started getting a bit queasy on that last stretch of road. But we had a great time.
