Local Roads

Post by jimpaul »

Hey who has favorite routes around SoCal? I am fond of this one: take Bouquet Canyon Road in Saugus, near Magic Mountain, heading north as it passes over the mountains and down towards Green Valley. Lots of twistys, great views, then straight pretty roads through Lake Hughes. The second "Rock Inn" biker hangout is here.

Also the roads around Agua Dulce and Sierra Highway are pretty cool. Vazquez Rocks Park is a treat.

So many to choose from! Mulholland Highway and any road that goes to or from it are always great driving roads. Yerba Buena is one of the more twisty and fun routes. Latigo is a blast also. And don't forget about Tuna Canyon, a twisty downhill one-way road! Hidden Valley is a nice one for a Sunday cruise.

One of my favorites drives is heading to Ojai by either Pacific Coast Highway or by Grimes Canyon through Santa Paula. Then head north on highway 33 over the mountains, and east through Lockwood Valley to Gorman. Take the Old Ridge Route through Three Trees and then over to Leona Valley. From there you can take San Francisquito Road, Spunky Canyon or Bouquet Canyon south.

Another great one of course is Angeles Crest Highway. I like to loop around Strawberry Peak on Upper Big Tujunga and Angeles Forest Roads.

I could talk all day about all the great roads we have in the area! 8)

In South Orange County I have enjoyed the Ortega highway with my GT a few times, although the road is pretty dangerous it is still fun.

The road is notorious for accidents...

I usually go up "the 2", cut over on "Angeles Forest HWY", and come back down on "Big Tujunga Canyon Rd". Sometimes I'll mix it up a little and take "The 2" cut over on "Upper Big Tujunga", and come back down on "Big Tujunga Canyon RD". OR I may mix it up and take one of those roads randomly in a random direction.

It all depends on whether I'm in the mood to attempt to get myself lost back there or not. :P

The loop down Upper Big Tujunga and up Angeles Forest is one of my favorite routes up there. I love Big Tujunga, but I hate where it drops you off. Nowhere to go but onto the freeway from there. So I take AF all the way back up to the Crest and down from there.

We're doing that very route this weekend in a group of T-Series MGs. :)
