Oil catch trays for garage

Post by tannyo »

Where can I find large trays to go on the floor of my garage to catch dripping oil? I don't know what they're called, but they look like really big cookie sheets.

I've bought many of them from Napa. I think they cost around $7, and are zinc-coated tin. If they're used outside then they will eventually rust, despite the coating. Used in the garage they last forever. I use four of them on each lift as drip protection for the cars underneath, and two of them in the driveway for the Model T. You think your MGB leaks? Model Ts leak faster than you can pour it in! Probably their way of preserving the roads back then...

Or, you can get stainless steel trays from a restaurant supply place but they cost a lot more.

I've been using the ' PLEWS ' brand ones for many a year , they work great and NAPA stores carry them .

Every time you're finishing up working on the car , wipe the collected oil up with the all ready oily rags you're about to throw out .

I've had two of these outside for nearly 20 years , the galvanizing really resists rusting but they do get some whiteish crud growing .

I feel it's wrong to keep a British Car from marking it's territory, that's how it finds it's way home. :P

I've heard it said that vintage British cars are like puppies, they leave puddles wherever they go.

Are O.K. but having oily dirty cement , is a bad thing when you work on it all the time .

That's the beauty of these steel trays .

Just go to a resturant supply store and buy alloy baking pans/cookie sheets. They are about 1/8" thick, 24X36 with a 1 inch lip and cost 3 or 4 dollars. I have a dozen or so that I use for drip pans and as parts trays. They never rust and are easy to reshape with you drive over them
