Square Can Master Cylinder rebore/rebuilder

Post by Stewart »

Any recommendations for a local guy/shop to bore out and rebuild a square can brake master? Also any thoughts on a stainless vs brass relining?

I used Arao Engineering in Chatsworth several years ago to do a coupe of MGA MC's. I don't know if they're still there or not. I've never done stainless but some of the early MG guys have done it and seemed happy.

Hope it's not the same shop as you may have dodged a bullet.

How funny! I guess that's why I can't find the shop on the maps anymore. When I was there, everyone including Russ was so nice and knowledgeable. They even helped me do some followup work for free when I ran into some unexpected issues with the rebuild. I suspect this was a case of a dreamer getting in over his head with a product he couldn't deliver as he had hoped. I've seen it happen before to people who meant well but just kept digging a hole for themselves.

You could try my retired machinist in Sierra Madre, but he's not doing much work anymore and with his age and health problems he may not be the fastest. Or just drive down Deering Ave in Canoga Park and take your pick of machine shops. Beyond that, maybe contact White Post and see if they can help.
