The best in the business in this area as far as I'm concerned is Classic Vision Restoration in Burbank. He doesn't do quick sloppy jobs so if you want a 1-day type of place, this isn't it. My MGC GTS has just been finished and I would be happy to show it to you, but the gallery and references on his web site speak for themselves.

I know of another guy who has been painting British classics for longer than I've owned them, probably between 20-30 years.

I'm going to second Steve's recommendation of Classic Vision. I just picked up my car today and the work is stupendous. They really pay attention to the details.

Impossible to say without an inspection of the car, but you get what you pay for. A 1-day place will do it for $1K-$2K. It will last a couple years before you have problems. A true restoration re-paint can easily cost $10K+ but it will last 25 years and look incredible.
Someone I know just dropped a couple cars to the place that painted my MGC. One of them is a huge Dodge Business Coupe. They are removing the fenders and panels and painting everything, but not to bare metal because he doesn't want to spend the extra money. The estimate was for around $10K. By leaving the fenders on and considering the much smaller size of an MGB, I'd guess you would save quite a bit. Removing and reinstalling your own hardware and trim pieces will also save a bit. I did that when I got a cheap 1-day job on the '65 once.

I just had my TR6 painted, and the quality is somewhere in between Steve's place, and the 1 Day Paint type of place. They did some body work for me, stripped down to almost bare metal, filled in some holes from removed accessories, realigned doors and fenders, removed all trim and did basecoat/clearcoat in 3 weeks for $3500. Even color sanded a few days later for that high gloss look. Looks pretty darn good, too, for what I paid.
