Highland Park / S.Pasadena area Mechanic ?

Post by stodgy »

Hi,

Though I’ve been lurking for a short while, I’m new here. I drive a 1968 Riley Elf (bastard, BMC love child); essentially a Mini and I need someone to take a look at it. I did do a search but came up with nothing.
Can anyone recommend a NELA area mechanic? I called Monise but for the past couple of weeks he’s been too busy. I live near Monterey Sport Car on Ave. 64. Is anyone familiar with their work? I have seen a Mini in their lot once or twice.

For the past couple of years the car’s been my daily driver and has served me well with weekly trips to the South Bay for work. This past Christmas break, I thought I’d take the opportunity to swap the original HS2 for an HS4 and install a larger intake and exhaust. Soon after, my son was born a month early and that essentially put all projects on hold, including renovating our new home, (well new to us!).

I recently got everything bolted back together but can’t get the engine to idle without a lot of choke. Frankly, I just don’t have the time right now to spend on the car to get it running properly. After working 50 hours a week, I’d rather spend time with the boy and my wife really would like the kitchen finished, the house painted, a new fence, landscaping instead of dirt and weeds, etc, etc.

If anyone has any recommendations, I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Dave

Welcome Dave! You should post that nice introduction in the "Introduce Yourself" thread. And while you're at it, be sure to post a photo or two of that Elf in the "Post a picture of your ride" thread! I believe you will be the first Elf in the gallery.

As for area mechanics I would have recommended Monise but I see you've already gone there. I'm sure someone else will chime in here with another option, if there is one. Good luck!

Hi Dave

Are you the guy with the green Elf I occasionally see on California Blvd. in Pasadena ? .

FWIW , Malcom is close by in Temple City , honest as the day is long .

Avoid Rickman Motors on East Colorado Blvd. at all ocsts , Jim sold out to a ripoof druggie named keith who ripped me off and damaged my beloved Metopolitan Nash then had the temerity to give me a hard time about his failure to do the work paid for and trying to hide his mistakes .

I heard about some shop on Valley Blvd. that works primarily on Midgets and Sprites , they should have no difficulty working on your Elf .

I hope those huge HS4's don't over carburate your little Elf .

thanks for the tips, Nate.

It's most likely not me you see. My car hasn't been Green for a couple years. Currently (temporarily) it's flat black w/ a green roof.
I know of a guy who has a couple Elfs and I think lives in Pasadena, it' probably him you've seen driving round.

Is that during the shorter winter days, or in the summer, too?
In baseball, running into someone is apparently a "collision".
But doing the same thing in a car somehow makes it an "accident".
