Windshield repair
I have the windshield out of my 1966 MGB right now as part of my restoration. Before I put it back in the frame with new seals I want to have the front of it polished. Overall it is in real nice original shape, but has the usual wiper marks that I want to get rid of. Can anyone make a recommendation for a place to take it? I have called a few places around me but they don't want to touch it.

Re: Windshield repair
Are they deep? If you can feel them with your fingernail then they may not be able to be polished completely out. Is it worth it to go through the trouble and expense versus buying a brand new one? The Moss Triplex windscreens are supposed to be very good. I put on in our MGA and it was a perfect fit, high in quality and carries the Triplex logo.

The windshield is really in good condition considering it's age. None of the scratches are deep. Maybe I should try polishing it myself. Anyone try this themselves?

I was thinking the same thing with mine. Its just pitted. Looks good until you realize that those dots just won't clean.

Re: Windshield repair
I just received a new windshield for my Healey, so I was going to suggest that you just order a replacement from Moss, but before I shot my mouth off I checked the prices. MGB windshields are 325.00. wow. That's about 200.00 more than the windshield for my BN7. Polishing sounds like a great idea...

Re: Windshield repair
I think I understand why the MGB windshield is so expensive after watching the MOSS video on how these new ones are made. But my original still has many miles left on it and I guess polishing is the best method. But which one? Eastwood has one but most of their stuff is so overpriced.

Re: Windshield repair
The Triplex windscreens sold by Moss are of the highest quality and fit, and are worth every penny compared to the aftermarket ones. I installed the MGA version and have never changed a windscreen so easily. I did an article on the job for British Motoring Magazine when they first came out with the MGA glass, which should still be available online.
I don't have any personal experience with polishing windscreens but I'm betting that most of the kits out there are similar. I'd take a look around at various suppliers like California Car Cover (showroom in Chatsworth), Griot's Garage, Meguiar's, Eastwood, Moss and whoever else you can think of.
Keep us posted on which polish kit you guys use and how it turns out!

Re: Windshield repair
About three years ago I made significant progress on both my windshield and my drivers side window with the two levels of Griots polish. Not perfect, but big improvement. I later acquired a random orbital polisher which with a Meguairs several step process did absolute wonders for my paint finish. I have since considered getting some pads dedicated to glass and taking another shot at it. Someone want to encourage me?

Re: Glass Polishing
DO THIS ! .
Be sure to clay it first .
Use ONLY an orbital buffer and uncontaminated pads ! .
It'll help reduce the pits and resulting annoying starbursts & halos at night when facing opposing traffic .
Use the _finest_ medium you can find .
