Needed: Rebuildable 3 bearing MGB motor(s)

Post by whitebuffalo »

I am in need of a three bearing 1800 MGB motor for three of my cars I am working on. I would like to put one in each of my projects if I can find them. Would want it rebuildable or in good condition to use as is.

My A55, Riley One Point Five and prospective purchase all have early 1500 BMC motors and corresponding transmissions , so the three bearing 1800 bolts onto my transmissions with minimal modifications. The later five bearing engines will not easily bolt to my transmissions and I don't want to chop up my transmission tunnels to fit the later larger housing five bearing transmissions.

You and me both! I've been looking for one for a while. Unfortunately the MGB racers have sucked up all of the supply. Not long ago you could get one for nothing. In fact I passed on a complete drop-in engine (carbs, starter, etc) for $100 because I didn't have the space to store it. I still feel pain from kicking myself in the arse not long after.

I remember when they were thought of a nice boat anchors, cheap as chips. I could even go for a MGA 1600 if those are available too. If I had lotto money I would search out some 1600 twin cams, now that is shooting for the stars. :hammer:

You would never find three MGA Twin Cam engines no matter how deep your pockets were!

It's a 5-main, but it's local and if the rebuild is good then it's a deal.

So, if I am not able to find a three bearing 1800, any suggestions on a good shop that can rebuild my 1500s?

I was looking for a while too and finally found one on craigslist , you have to really beat the bushes on these , too many were tossed out for scrap .
