Bad month for TCs.

Post by olson »

returning from our last club outing to Fillmore, the TC seemed to be running on 3 cylinders. Finally got around to checking it. Compression: 100, 110, 110, 0,
0 as in none in #1 cylinder.
Hoping for burned valve took off the head. needs a valve job, but not bad enough for 0.
Slight scoring in #1. Pulled piston- very badly scored piston, but bore doesnt look too bad. other bores look great, no lip at the top at all.
Then,BAD NEWS, that oil drop at the bottom of #1 was not an oil drop- it was a dime size crater. Not sure if it goes through to water, but way too deep to bore out( bores already at +100 thousands). that means sleeve the block.

Like Steve, this started as a simple clean up.
no experience, I plan to sleeve just the one bore, then have it bored to the same as the others. any one got recommendations for someone with experience with sleeving?

Man, what a bummer! I've been thinking for a while that your car didn't sound right. You might talk to Ron in Chatsworth. I don't know how much experience he has installing sleeves but he seems to know all about them.

What a great opportunity to install a V8.
In baseball, running into someone is apparently a "collision".
But doing the same thing in a car somehow makes it an "accident".

a Kia engine would have more power that a TC. I don't think the 19 inch spindly wheels would react well to stomping on a V8.

1) Didn't some racers run dual rear wheels?
2) Isn't there supposed to be a connection of sorts between the right foot and the brain?
