1958 MGA Roadster Body and Paint
If you remember way back in the year 2011, my MGA was backed into by a large pickup. I'm finally getting around to fixing it, so here are a few photos.
This is the dent in question...
Now the car wasn't perfect beforehand. The paint had a few problem areas and the bodywork wasn't exactly smooth in a few areas. The aluminum doors were especially wavy. There was also some damage from brake fluid on the right door and right front fender. All in all a very nice-looking car, but not perfect by any means. So this is an opportunity to take care of all the problems at once.
The current paint on the car is of very high quality, it's mainly the bodywork that didn't get enough attention. So the plan is to repair the massive dent in the left rear fender, repair a couple small dents on the lower right fender and waves on the wheel arch, smooth both door skins, polish the damaged paint on the right front fender and then blend everything together.
I visited the car in the shop today and they are making record time. Apparently everything in there are full restorations and they are at a standstill on all of them, so my car went right to the front of the line - all hands on deck! After one week the body is done and the paint has been applied. It is now being polished.
The shop took it upon themselves to paint both front fenders complete rather than blending. I can't say I'm disappointed! I was tempted to to pay a bit extra and do the hood and front clip too but we have to call it quits somewhere. We're already over the amount of the insurance check.

Now I wish I was getting married this year for the engagement pics that we did with that car.
That is some very nice work.

We were just remembering about that the other day when we drove through old town. You'll have to send me a shot or two sometime!

Wow, I didn't even realize you had the MGA in the paint shop, Steve. Can't wait to see it with the fresh paint. Is it at the same place you got your other cars done at?

Yes, same expensive shop since insurance is paying for it. I only took it in 7 days ago!

Re: 1958 MGA Roadster Body and Paint
In what may be the shortest restoration blog ever, I can now report that after only 8 days the car is done and out of the shop. Here are a couple crappy camera-phone pics I took last night before tucking it away. Needless to say the job was well done and the paint is gorgeous!
The doors also fit much better now after some fiddling by the guys at the shop. The latches still don't hold very well but that shouldn't be difficult to remedy once I get the incentive to tackle it.

Wow. It is amazing what a team of professionals can do. 8 days? I have spent that much time just thinking about getting the smallest of projects started.Steve Simmons wrote:In what may be the shortest restoration blog ever, I can now report that after only 8 days the car is done and out of the shop.
Very cool. Just in time for the driving season.

The car looks great! Good job!
We use the same sanding, priming, and painting techniques used by Auto Body Repair Orange County shops. We remove unsightly dings, dents, and creases with a popular Dent Repair Orange County process called paintless dent removal.

Steve,
Beautiful. It makes my heart ache. That was the color that mine was going to be if I hadn't sold it in 1980!

Re: 1958 MGA Roadster Body and Paint
I guess I never posted a "done" photo. This is the best I have and the car is still on a film shoot so I can't get a better one. The paint looks a bit too brite in this image but you get the idea.
