1987 BMW 535IS

Post by Austin_Caccavo »

Well, to start off, I can't really say it's my car yet. Mostly because I'm only 15 and secondly because I need to stop my self from buying car parts and use my money for payments toward my dad. Anyway, I have had the luxury of being able to freely work on the car. I recently splurged and bought the suspension kit I have been dreaming of. I blew out my OEM shocks at autocross and the ride was horrible. The swap was pretty much as detailed as I though with the exception of my friend, Blake, stripping a bolt on the steering arm... Thanksfully a few minutes later Martin randomly showed up to the rescue! Good thing he did cause me and Blake were freaking out since my dad specifically said not to mess anything up. Martin managed to get it out and we found another bolt to do the job. I just want to publicize a thank you to Martin. So let the pictures explain:

Here is the car before autocross

Blowing out those shocks

My gorgeous new setup: Bilstein Sports and H&R sport springs

Old stuff

New stuff

There only supposed to be 1.25" lower, but it sure is deceiving...

Thanks for doing the scary part Blake

The rears sure do look attractive

Trashed, Boge's in the front and Monroe's in the back.

Results are in: Dropped 1.25" in the front and 1.50" in the back

Looks really low on the grass.

Couldn't be happier, great stance and amazing ride. It's very responsive and has almost no body roll without being hard as a rock.

Looks great. I think the height is going to be a good compromise between driveability and performance.

Took a few pictures after i re-adjusted the rear suspension. I lowered the right side a 1/2 in to compensate for the unknown chassis tweak.

Getting close on the wheel fitment..

Also, I decided it would be a good idea to do something about the horrid and chipped pin striping on the trunk. If you look at my previous pictures of the car on the grass you can see how bad it used to be. Anyway I am very happy with the finished product. It not only looks cleaner but maintains vintage appearance crossed with modern styling.

Austin,

The car looks clean with the pin stripping removed along the back and it was nice to see folks interested in it at Super Car Sunday.

You are going to have to give it another try at autocross, unless of course you wanted your tires to last a little longer - hint hint.
