What, no pics? You tease! Actually I do still need to take my '67 in to have the valence straightened and while yours is there to compare against is a good time...

I was too busy drooling to take pics. It's too bad it's going to be painted as the metal work is incredible.

Hi Stewart,

The "B" is going to look good. Is it going to be Red?

We after rereading the original post I have answered my own question Tartan Red.

Why the drain hole? With the top welded up it should be even more watertight than before. Come to think of it, welding the sealing panel to the fender might not be a bad idea. Then it would be 100% watertight, if there is such a thing on an M.G.

I'm worried about water coming off the wheels getting trapped. On my roadster when it's been on wet roads water is coming out of the gap between the fender and sill. Really flows out when I'm desalting the wheel wells with a hose.

Desalting? You drive your cars to the Dakotas? I guess that makes sense if you drive on salted roads. But... I wonder if a coating of POR15 inside the fender area would be even better. You could store salt water in there after that and it wouldn't hurt a thing.

Shouldn't be. Salt was outlawed in CA in favor of sand, although I heard they are using some chemical too. Maybe that's it? Or did things change maybe?

I think on ach they use cinders and mag chloride which is not quite as nasty as sodium chloride but its not something I want on the car for a long period of time.

It's looking like one more session of sanding and it will be ready for paint. Transmission made it to quantum and after an emergency trip to moss the engine engine is being reassembled. If you buy the Vernier Cam Gear from moss check the crankshaft gear as the inner diameter of the one in the kit was substantially oversized.

Also if anyone needs a windshield for a gt I have 2. Both are originals with a bit of wiper scratching on both of them no chips. FREE I don't want to throw them out if someone needs one. I also have 2 pairs of door glass both with a bit of scratching FREE.

I can't wait to see the color you chose. My left window is pretty scratched so I've been thinking of replacing it. I'll wait to see yours before ordering from Moss to see if they match what I have now.

Steve I went ahead and cleaned up both left windows and they were worse than they looked. I can always bring them on the next run and you can see if they are better than what you have.

Looks like I'm getting the engine back tomorrow. Anyone have a good source of MG maroon that doesn't change color over time.

Sorry, I meant I planned to order from Moss but I don't know how the color tint will look next to my rears. No good reason to spend time replacing one scratched up window with another.

I've always used Duplicolor Dark Canyon Red. Pretty tough stuff and a good match to original. The Moss paint is also a good color match to original (and easier to find) but it will stain and run when contacted with hot coolant, oil, brake fluid, etc, so it requires a clear coat.

I've been using Duplicolor ceramic engine paint and clear coat now for a few years with great results, but I don't think they have anything in the original maroon color. I decided I don't like that color anyway, so I'm using a traditional red. Here's an example, freshly painted with no cleat coat. Notice the Dark Canyon Red thermostat cover sitting on top for comparison to factory original color.

Another comparison of my red verses original red.

Got the engine back from the builder. Double check your oil filter before you put them on as I got a badly threaded wix 1068.

It's 40 over 8.8 to 1 compression since I'm not going crazy with the boost, Hans Peterson SC cam, head ported for SC by apt with larger intake valves and a vernier timing gear.

Fairly similar to mine, except I'm at about 8:1 with APT SC cam, also +40 bore but with custom pistons. My head was done at Flowspeed, ported and flowed. Puts out 149HP / 149 lbs.ft on low boost after dyno work. I still haven't run it at high boost because the belt slips badly. Even on low boost I have to tighten with a crowbar. And tuning is really touchy on this thing, especially riding the choke in the morning. Very, very touchy.

If you want to hang out with the cool kids, run a rear bearing in your generator so you can be the second generator-powered, supercharged MGB on the planet. ;) And love the steel valve cover by the way.
