1962 Morris Mini Traveller

Post by whitebuffalo »

This is my new, to me, 1962 Morris Mini Traveller. Been wanting one for a long time and finally got one. This is the early type with a smooth roof, in 1964 and later the roof had corrugations to stiffen the roof. The other unique feature is that it does not have the optional wood match sticks applied to the exterior. It will eventually get a coat of Almond Green with Rose petal wheels. Will get a set of disc brakes on later this week.

That looks like a very clean car for its age.
Is that the original interior?

Not original, carpet is new, seats are from 1970's Mini Clubman and have been reupholstered. Some of the trim panels are original. Looked into the motor, it is an 850 which is original to the car, but has been breathed on with a Cooper 998 head, larger carb and three branch header.

So, finally got the Traveller up and running. She now has fully adjustable suspension, disc brakes, new shocks, 998 Cooper motor with twin HS2s. Going for a rally chase car theme. Had some Carello fog lights left from my Innocenti, so added them to the car as well as some bonnet straps. Might eventually add some Cooper Car Company livery from the '60s Cooper race cars.

Nice looking car Mike ! .

You could trim it like your Shop Vehicle.....

It looks very different sans the wood , I like this way better .

You have a good skillset there , the head liner looks nice indeed .

Did you install any closed cell damping in the roof when the head liner was out ? .

I put the horsehair stuff back in, which works ok. More noise coming from the motor so anything added elsewhere is negated by the sound of the engine.
