1970 Morris Minor Pickup

Post by whitebuffalo »

Well, not sure how these cars find me, but I tend to find the weird and wonderful variant cars. I had bought a 1969 MKII Mini from a fellow Mini club member and at his house he had this great Minor pickup that had a stake bed conversion. I had to have it. Traded him a set of carbon fiber panels for it.

The car will be a front lawn ornament for a while until I get my Mini and Imp sorted, then it will be the Minor's time for restoration. It is a 1970 that was built on the North island of New Zealand at the Panmure plant. Has a 1098 and I have a friend who is going to sell me a 1098 that has a 1275 head on it to give this truck a little more oomph unless I find a decent (read cheap) 1275 for it :D

I plan on either Primrose Yellow with tan interior, maroon with tan interior or perhaps Iris blue with tan interior.

That's a neat little thing! I vote for Iris blue. That way when I buy it off you some day it will be a color I like. :D

Looks very cool to me .

I hope it has slightly more leg room than than regular Morris Pickups ? .

I have a short (32") inseam and I find them too cramped leg wise , to drive more than a few minutes :( .

I don't see them often but the Midgets I find in the Pick-A-Part yards typically have 1275 engines that no one wants so they get tossed into the scrap bin .

The smasher I harvested the tranny out of for my Morris , had a rebuilt engine that was nice and dry out side , someone had taken the extra time and effort to properly seal it .

Only $200 , sadly I have too much junk already else I'da bought it on spec....

This is an original pickup so it has whatever room that the pick up you remember. I am not that tall so should be ok for my use. Hope to have it roaring down the canyons on a VM run in a few years :drive

Plan on a disc brake conversion as well as some suspension mods that the racers use, can't have an ill handling Moggie :D Will have to ditch those wheels, they are 100x4 drilled poorly to accept the 4 x 4 design of the Morris. Might look into some steels , paint them black and have hub caps for that minimalist look.

You let a $200 motor go? Dang, would be nice to have that. If you happen to come across something similar then pick it up for me and I'll buy it off you.

I see 1274 engines every time I find a dead Spridget .

This one had been rebuilt not long before the car was cashed , it had new paint too .

I'll try to remember to post the next one I find but I already have so much junk folks swore they'd buy and then didn't want no matter how cheaply I tried to sell it . no more of that :x .

I'm always shocked by the amount of good hard parts I have to throw away after not even being able to GIVE them away ~ *perfect* smooth case trannies, complete S.U. carby set ups , un cracked cylinder heads , rear ends , on and on and.....
