1960 Singer Gazelle

Post by whitebuffalo »

Found another very rare car that I WILL restore and keep, promise! It is a 1960 Singer Gazelle, I am the third owner. It was sold new in Palo Alto, CA to Elsie Esteves on 14 November 1960 who traded in a 1959 Hillman Minx. The car is named Elsie after the first owner. I think the car was built in 1958 or 1959 based on the VIN and design. The car lived it's life at Clear Lake in Lakeport, CA then across the lake at Lucern. It is in need of restoring and has little rust, but nothing bad. Found it on Craig's List for $500. Will be painted in the same colors, but want tan leather interior.

Wow, that really is unusual! I love it! Seems like you got it cheap.

Great car. My Grandfather had a Gazelle from new, that became my mother's car when he replaced it. Dark metallic green, soft leather and very beautiful. I remember it well from when i was a little kid. Not many left, even back in the UK.

Looking forward to seeing it finished

I was told that there were only 50 early Gazelles in the UK, not sure how true that is unless that is from the DVLA which would allow for a few not on SORN. Early Gazelle meaning Series 3c and earlier. I am sure there are much fewer in North America.

It will be great to restore it, not going to be concourse, but good driver and good presentable car. No silly mods like overly large motor or anything like that. Am considering a 1725 , however, for traffic flow ability. Disc brakes would be nice, but would have to find a Sunbeam Rapier of the same era to get them off of and those are a dime a dozen :jester

It's always a treat to find some unmolested old nail stored out of the weather, ready to be put back to work .

Keep us posted ! .
