Here is my 1970 Porsche 914 1.7. I plan on building up the motor to a 1.9 or if I can locate a 2.0 then I'll put that into it. I have different wheels and some nice Corbeau seats that will grace it's chassis. Still up in the air on what to do for it's look. One idea is to paint it Gulf Blue and paint the side sills, lower lip of the bumpers in orange to hint at a Gulf scheme or to keep it white and do Martini stripes which might be more striking.

Very nice 914-4 you have there.
If that is the original color of the car I would not paint it as they are worth more in the original color but that is just my belief.
The 914-4 1.7ltr motor can be upgraded by replacing the pistons and cylinders to make it a 1.95ltr motor. You might check Pelican Parts for the kit if they are still available. These are one of the best handling autos out there with just very minor tweaks to the suspension like front and rear sway bars and a good set of tires.
I have had nine (thats correct 9) of these 914's over the years and sold my last one 4 years ago to a friend who has just finished restoring it. It is the 914-6 in the middle of the three in my front yard.

The white one was a 69 1.7 (very early car) the Zambezi Green was a 73 2.0ltr. The 73 2.0 was just a hoot to drive and is what I instructed in when I was doing that for PCANA in the late 90's.
This is the first year in 48 yrs that I have not renewed that membership.

That's nice .

I like the white color .

I had a 1975 2 liter for a while, it still had the BOSCH D - Jetronic F.I. in it and it ran very well indeed .

There are two VW 2 liter typ IV engines that fit, one is for the Typ II's and the cylinder heads are a bit different so be aware when you're out looking .

Typ IV engines are usually very cheap when you find them .

You're wise to have a 1970 as it needs no smog testing so you can go hog wild with it if you wish .

I prefer stock so I can drive them as hard as I want and never worry about breaking .

Steve- I am fortunate to have collected the cars I have. Luckily I have spots for 6 cars in the garage and carports. I am going to follow through and restore each of them. Currently I have 5 cars and plan on getting only one more in the shape of a 1971 Jeep J4000 pickup and that will be it for my collection. Will hold there, tired of the endless searching for cars and selling them too :lol:



Nate, yes, have to search out only the 2 liter from 914s and will watch for the engine numbers. I do like the cheaper (relatively) way of up rating my 1.7 or find a 1.7 and build it to the 1.9ltr. Also, I only go for cars that are pre-smog that way I can do as I want without having to deal with a smog test etc.....

Martin: Original color was yellow. I'd go for yellow, however, would want a different hue than the factory in the form of a Toyota yellow from some of their Prius line or the Scion TC.

Added a Triad exhaust , sounds so much better now than the tinny Monza exhaust and the twin pipe outlet looks so much better to me than the busy four outlet set up. New wheels are lighter and much better looking to me.

They have this designed in thing where if you let up off the throttle in a corner, they like to unload the rear suspension and spin like a top .

Since the engine is in the middle, not so easy to spin unlike a 911 where all the weight is out the back. Not spun it yet, even in that snow. Just little iffy on the turning at slow speeds in the snow. On dry roads, holds nicely and no weird feelings at all, but have not pushed it as much as I have with my Stiletto or the past Minis.
