event alert!

Post by gorms68 »

Just read in the morning paper about a must see event. 12 pre-1915 cars are going to climb Mt. Wilson up the old fire road :o Here is a link to the story in the paper:

http://www.mercurynews.com/california/ci_19159081

We are going to try and get up there to take some pictures. Steve get the Model T fired up and get your @!$* over there!

Hope to see you there!

Chris,

It was good to see you there. You must have had a good time, sticking around for so long and your wife hiking up in sandals! What a trooper.

I was pretty dense not to connect you here to the guy in the neighborhood with the Chandler.

See you soon.

We had a great time. It was real treat to see the cars being used as they would have been many years ago. I hope to have photos to post later tonight. Come on by the house some time and you can see our 1 and 1/2 Chandlers. We will also show you the 1934 MG PA. We need to compare it to your Wolsey.

I'm really bummed that I missed this. Being a Mount Wilson history buff as well as an early automobile nut, this was right up my alley. Maybe next year, and maybe they will let me bring my '25 T truck up there. I can probably get a piece of one of the old telescopes from Mount Wilson to put in the bed as a recreation. ;)

Steve,

I know that you would have enjoyed it.

As far as participating, it was a Horseless Carriage Club event for which we had to sign up for and for a limited number of cars. That said, one of the cars was a 1920s Ford pickup.

I encourage anybody interested to join the Horseless Carriage Club. You don't have to have a qualifying car (pre-1916) to be a member. Almost all of our local one day tours don't exclude later cars from participating. A few members grumble about it, but they are best ignored; these activities are supposed to be fun!

Chris,

Thanks for the photos, I forgot to bring my camera.

In the last photo, you can't tell, but Nancy is saying "Be careful, slow down!" I slowed down just enough to make the turn.

Actually, Nancy had a lot of fun. I'm a lucky guy!

That explains why you let off the gas! We were wondering about that back at the bridge. There was so much smoke and dust (mostly dust for those who were not there) that we were not sure what happened.

As I said before I have lots more pictures. I'll see about putting them on a DVD for you.
