Re: Tanny's 1967 MGB GT
It doesn't matter if the tires were balanced statically, dynamically, or not at all.
But by moving them front to rear you'd know if the symptoms got better, stayed the same, or got worse. Either way, it's a no-cost part of trouble shooting the issue.
Also, out of round wheels, and/or tires, does not always equal imbalance - at least not noticeable imbalance.
And keep in mind that it's best to drive a bit before balancing tires, anyway, since things settle in and tend to change a little in the bead areas. Your tires might have been well balanced - until you drove on them. Having tubes that can move around inside doesn't exactly help.
Another clue worth looking into is that you solved the vibration issue that appeared after the alignment by tightening the knock-offs, and now it's back again. Perhaps it's time to re-tighten, again?
Somehow I suspect that you didn't follow Steve's advice and clean the wheel's seating areas off, which could well mean that you'll have to tighten things on a daily basis for a while.

In baseball, running into someone is apparently a "collision".
But doing the same thing in a car somehow makes it an "accident".

Re: Tanny's 1967 MGB GT
You're right I did not clean the seating areas, but Malcolm retightened the wheels a couple of times and I have done it once. Malcolm says that they are tight enough. Maybe because "since things settle in and tend to change a little in the bead areas" since I've driven on them, the wheels need to be rebalanced.Jimmy wrote:It doesn't matter if the tires were balanced statically, dynamically, or not at all.

Re: Tanny's 1967 MGB GT
Rainy day. I was at Malcolm's today to get a gas leak taken care of. Now I'm at West Valley Instrument Specialists having a custom speedometer cable made because the Moss cable end was too large for the speedometer and made out of metal instead of nylon. According to Morris it could ruin the speedometer. It was definitely causing me a problem in that in the car the speedometer was off, by up to ten miles per hour. Yet when Morris tested it on his equipment it was within specs. It was off by two MPH. I had the cable replaced because the speedometer was waving at me when driving.
I haven't driven the car yet as I'm waiting for them to finish installing the cable and speedometer in the car.

Well, the speedometer is better, but still way off after 60. Any ideas out there? The speedometer was rebuilt by west valley and the speedometer cable has now been replaced twice.

Sounds like time for a different (better) Speedo Repair Shop...
I recommend Don's Speedy Speedometer in , uh , Downy IIRC .
North Hollywood Speedo on Lankersheim is good if you're rich .

This is not typical of Morris' work. Before we "bash" his work we should find out what the problem is. Though this is not necessarily part of the problem, but there is a washer that should be on the transmission side of the speedo cable that is often missing.

Re: Tanny's 1967 MGB GT
I took the car to the upholstery shop yesterday. The interior is out.
They started on the headliner.
The red on top is leather for the seat faces and sides of the top half of the seats. The red below the leather is vinyl for the panels, rear seat and carpet binding.
The carpet isn't stock, not even a stock color and this is how they are going to fit it so that it doesn't have wrinkles around the back of the transmission tunnel. The carpet will go over the top of the console, unlike how they did this job.

Red interior. Classy! Was is not cheaper to buy the Moss deluxe carpet kit? Looks like they do nice work, and it's a good sign that they have three MGBs in there at one time.

With my shoulder and hand injury I would still have to have it installed by an upholstery shop, so it's going to be less expensive this way.Steve Simmons wrote:Red interior. Classy! Steve Gartner has used them a couple of times and Darrin Sher of Darrin's MG uses them. The price installed is about the same as the complete Moss kit.

643-410 $331.95 Panel Set, Red Vinyl with Red Piping
That's $2,758.20 without tax. There isn't a shipping charge because it's over $600.00. That's also not installed. The leather seats are only leather on the seat faces. There can be additional items that need to be purchased. For less I can get my whole car done, in addition I'm getting hushmat installed too.

The headliner, A and B pillers, and one seat. I think it looks good even taken inside with my phone which doesn't take good inside pictures.

Re: Tanny's 1967 MGB GT
The Hushmat is up the firewall and on the floor. I hope it works as advertised and not only makes it quieter but also gets rid of some of the heat from the transmission tunnel.
Here you can see it on the firewall.
The headliner looks beautiful. The wire for the microphone for the bluetooth connection will be stuck here with the wire hidden. The visors just needed cleaning up.
A second seat is done.
I asked for them to put carpet on the back of the seats like the original seats. You can see it's darker than the seats. I should be on the floor by tomorrow. I hope it looks good.
Just waiting for the carpet, panels and back seat. They said it would be done this week.

Re : Insulation
Yes Tanny , it all works very well , you'll soon see .
The single most important thing is to close up ANY holes or gaps in the firewall and floor , that reduces the engine heat even more than does the insulation .
I hope you remembered to put some in the roof before the new headliner went in ? .
In side the doors too but ONLY closed cell typ insulation in the doors ! .
Adding a barrier sheet of plastic to the inner door before replacing the trim panels not only reduces noise sharply but also insulates well and prevents the normal warping of the panels over the years...

Re: Tanny's 1967 MGB GT
Sorry for the blurry pictures. Here they've done the transmission tunnel and sills. They use a plastic material for the panels which won't warp and should seal well.
Now if I only had a hidden area to put my phone/GPS. Maybe behind the speaker grill, like the Bond Aston Martin. What do you think? The grill could flip up into the console revealing a place to put my phone/GPS.
The back is carpeted. The pockets are completely carpeted with custom molded removable carpet to go behind the tail lights.
Here's the battery area. I forgot to take a picture of the back seat but Roberto had enough leather left over that he upholstered the unusable for people back seat in leather.
The side panel over the speakers will have small holes in them that will be barely seen. I've done my best to hide the modern stereo. There are speakers in the kick panels, behind the front seats (that you can see) and a self contained sub-woofer below the passenger seat that was originally made for pick up trucks that don't have a lot of space. The radio itself is hidden behind the blanking plate that is held in with magnets. Now if I only had a hidden area to put my phone/GPS. Maybe behind the speaker grill, like the Bond Aston Martin. The red interior is going to look awesome with your paint. That's always been one of my favorite color combos.
Is your GPS in your phone? I have mine hooked up to play through hidden speakers, and I listen to my Music via my phone too. Nice thing is that the GPS talks to me, pausing the music. MEans I don't really need to look at the GPS at all.
Works pretty well, although I've only used the GPS in the MG a few times.

Re: Tanny's 1967 MGB GT
The GPS program is on my phone and it talks to me and pauses the music too. It works as long as I have cell coverage, then not so good. I'm directionally challenged, so a GPS helps me a lot. Unfortunately, my wife is directionally challenged too. Before GPS we had some traveling adventures. The GPS reduces the stress of travel.Fifty Six MGA wrote:The red interior is going to look awesome with your paint. That's always been one of my favorite color combos.

My phone also stores music like an iPod, can stream Pandora and many radio stations as long as I have cell coverage. The rear speakers and sub-woofer will be hidden, however the front speakers are surface mounted on the kick panels. Though sometimes I turn it all off and listen to the sweet sound of the engine.

Re: Tanny's 1967 MGB GT
It's called a quarter light mirror. Steve has one on his GTS. It designed to clamp to your vent window which then makes the vent window useless. I attached it to the window frame. It doesn't hold on very well and is blurry to see what's going on behind you. If I had to do it again I wouldn't use it. You can see it on the car at the Memorial day run on the 28th.VWNate1 wrote:Wowie Tanny ! .

I don't know how to spell a wolf whistle so I'll just say nice looking car.
Told ya so! Although it should hold fine. It's just the field of view that sucks. They are more of an overtaking mirror than a rear view mirror.tannyo wrote:It doesn't hold on very well and is blurry to see what's going on behind you. If I had to do it again I wouldn't use it.
